A focal point is so important especially in a square room and a chimney breast is such an easy way to make an impact.

Not all rooms have to be colourful, but all rooms should have different textures; that could simply be different textured cushions as a quick fix.

Chimney breast, feature wall, or bold furniture — what's your go-to focal point trick?

Why "just imagine it" is bad client communication.

We say it constantly in this industry. Picture the room in warm neutrals. Imagine the light hitting that wall in the evening. Can you see it?

Here's the uncomfortable bit: somewhere between 1 in 25 and 1 in 100 people literally cannot picture anything. No mental image at all. It's called aphantasia — not a disorder, just a different kind of mind — and most people who have it don't even realise until well into adulthood, because how would you know your "imagining" is different from everyone else's?

How do you go about decorating a room if you cannot visualise how a room will look like.

I am here to help make it easier step - by - step.

you need the stuff that doesn't rely on imagination at all: physical samples in their hands, full-size paint drawdowns on their actual walls, 3D renders, real showroom visits. Less "trust me, picture it" and more "here it is, in front of you."
Can you see in your mind's eye?

😅 Sped up hours of painting Templeton Pink because nobody needs to watch me cut in around a skirting board in real time. Built the cork wall bar unit — more on that build soon. This is the bit before the pretty photos: paint on hands, radio on, no plan for how long it'll actually take.

Sat down with James, owner of Dowsing & Reynolds, and got to hear how he actually brings a design from idea to finished product.

What struck me most was how much instinct plays a part — not everything starts as a sketch or a spec, sometimes it's just knowing something's right before you can explain why. As a fellow designer, that resonated more than I expected. 🥃

Walk into 10 show homes and nine of those you can bet your life that there will be several shades of "safe".

Grey or Greige walls, 1 feature wall chucked in, perhaps a slat wall. Where's the originality? That's really just being a copycat as its too scary to do anything different.

Fine if you love it, really I mean that but don't do it just because everyone else is doing it - that is the easiest way to fall out of love with your home fast!

Your home should be a reflection of you, not a show home, not just following a trend for fear of getting it wrong.

Playing it safe can create a mediocre look.

What are tour thoughts? I am happy to hear it even if you disagree wholeheartedly.

Are you team 'colourful with character' or 'neutral is the way forward' - let me know in the comments 👇

Ever wondered how a socket plate gets THAT finish? 🥃 Spent the day at Dowsing & Reynolds watching the powder coating process — genuinely mesmerising to watch

Dowsing & Reynolds do it all in-house, right here in Leeds - powder applied, then baked at high heat until it bonds properly.

That's the difference between a product that lasts and one that chips within a year.

I am all about quality craftsmanship and the fact that its made so close to home is even better.
