What happened over the weekend?

🔷Damp weather kept people inside, so they realised they wanted a change of colour, a refresh or they saw the worn bits on their carpet?

🔷The Summer holidays are coming to an end, so people are thinking about sprucing up the house ready for Christmas?

We're not sure, but we came in on Tuesday to lots of messages, and we are doing our best to reply to them all.

We have a huge range of beautiful carpets, luxury vinyl tiles (LVT), laminates and wooden flooring to view at our Kingsmead Street showroom. We also have a great team of quality fitters, who will be able to fit your flooring perfectly.

No, we're not going to start flying kites outside our showroom or your home when we visit!

Kites, or winders, are the triangular parts of stairs that go around a corner. They are an important part of helping get your stair carpet looking perfect.

It is considered to be one of the hardest parts of a carpet fitter's job, which is why we're so grateful to have such talented fitters on our team.

There are plenty of opportunities for mistakes to be made. The cut is difficult due to the angles. It's hard to stretch the carpet evenly to maintain tension. Inaccurate cutting of the excess may leave fraying or gaps. Ensuring the pile of the carpet runs smoothly is also tricky.

If you want beautiful flooring, fitted perfectly, why not call us to discuss your next flooring design project? We also have an extensive range of flooring at our showroom on Kingsmead Street - we'd be happy to welcome you.

Whether you have a rug on a hardwood floor or a fully fitted carpet, it's important to care for it carefully so that it will last you as long as possible.

Regular vacuuming will help to remove the grits, dust and hairs. There's no set rule as to how often, but it is usually suggested that you vacuum at least twice a week, potentially more often if you have pets.

A DIY or professional steam or low-moisture clean will effectively remove dirt, oils and other residues, allergens and bacteria often embedded deep in the fibres. They can extend the lifespan of your carpet.

If you have any spills on your carpets, try to clean them up as soon as possible. Use a soft cloth to blot the area and then a carpet-safe solution to remove any stain or smell.

To help with general wear and tear, consider using doormats and perhaps introduce a no shoes policy in rooms where you have carpet. This will prevent dirt build up and harsher wear of your carpet.

If you have any specific questions about how to care for your carpets, please contact us as we'll be happy to help.

We're all very aware of the sun at the moment, and the damage that it can do to our skin and health, but the sun can also damage your flooring.

Ultraviolet (UV) rays will fade coloured carpets and wooden flooring over time, so if possible, it is best to block or filter UV rays before they hit the surface. UV film can be added to windows, or special sealants or coatings can be given to wooden floors, but simply drawing curtains or blinds during peak sunshine will help.

Consider how you place your furniture, too. Rotating large items regularly will help lessen darker patches being left when the item is moved.

Talk to us about the amount of natural light that your room has and we will help you to choose colours and styles of flooring accordingly. Without protection, all flooring will fade over time, but we can help give you ideas to enhance the life of your flooring.

Did you know that it is National Book Lovers Day on Sunday? No, we didn't until recently, either.

We love getting our noses into a good book, although in our case it is more often than not a good sample book of carpets or vinyl!!

Being serious for a moment, we understand that reading is an important past time for adults, and a great way to learn for children - whether that's through a simple picture book, an illustrated story or a non-fiction book explaining about the world we live in.

Children, especially, love to read lying or sitting on the floor, so it's important to choose the right floor to encourage them. You might want to consider a cosy shagpile, although they do require additional maintenance to keep their appearance. A practical solution may not be as comfortable, but it will save you the hassle of additional care.

Why not call into our Kingsmead Street showroom to get some inspiration? We have hundreds of sample books for you to browse through. They give you the opportunity to not only get an idea of the colours on offer, but also the luxuriousness of the carpet you are choosing. Our staff are keen to offer guidance and ideas if you need them, too.

We look forward to welcoming you.

"What do noses have to do with carpets and flooring?", we hear you ask.

Well, the nose is the name given to any front edge between the horizontal tread and vertical riser of a stair.

The nose is usually a straight-forward 90 degree angled step, but in many houses, the last step, especially, has a more prominent nose, called a 'bullnose'. It is often curved beyond the main width of the stairs and is feature of the design. Whilst carpet can be laid over a bullnose and left to 'hang' down, carpet fitters enjoy the satisfaction of fitting the carpet under the bullnose, and then to secure it down the riser.

Carpet fitting isn't just a skill, it is a craft, and our expert carpet fitters love to revel in a job well done, demonstrating their craft.

If you have stairs that need carpeting, or stair noses that need protecting (this can be done in brass or chrome, not always the industrial-style rubber treads with glow in the dark strips, for example), Avonvale Carpets have a huge range of possibilities. We also have a bespoke stair display, highlighting all the options and terms used when fitting stair carpet perfectly.

Why not call into our showroom on Kingsmead Street to take a look or to gain inspiration?

Whether you live in a Georgian mansion, a new-build or need to update a workspace, you will want to consider the aesthetics of the entire space.

At Avonvale Carpets, our team will help you match to or contrast with existing furnishings or decoration, or we'll give advice on whether to go bold.

Trends and styles change, and interior designers push the boundaries of acceptability. We have access to all the modern trends, but we continue to stock grey, despite it being 'out' at the moment because we know that some of our customers still ask for it.

Whatever your flooring plans for your next interior project, we can help you choose the right one. We'll source it for you, and then we'll fit it perfectly.

Call in to our Kingsmead Street showroom to see and feel our ranges of wood, carpet, vinyls and laminates. Whatever your design aspirations, we can help.

Did you know that Radio Bath is a community-driven radio station?

Their professional volunteers broadcast from the Lower Bristol Road in Bath, and the station is dedicated to connecting, informing, and entertaining the people of our city and the surrounding areas. The station was launched with the vision of celebrating local voices, talent, and stories.

These are just some of the reasons that we are so proud to be patrons of a platform that reflects the diverse and vibrant spirit of Bath.

Our management team have had the pleasure (it was actually quite nerve-wracking) of appearing on a few shows, talking all things Bath as well as what we do. We also sponsor one of the Radio Bath business breakfasts each year. The breakfasts happen on a monthly basis and enable those involved in local businesses, charities and educational establishments to network and hear informative talks and presentations.

Listen live via DAB radio, online or your smart speaker. Alternatively, you can access some of the shows via the Listen Again via MixCloud.
