The best period home interiors don’t feel stuck in the past.

For me, it’s about finding the right balance between preserving the character that makes the house special and introducing elements that make it work effortlessly for modern life.

I tend to use a 80:20 balance: letting the period character lead, while bringing in just enough contemporary detail to keep the home feeling current.

The result should feel layered, considered and completely at home in the building.

When you’re renovating a whole home, it’s easy to end up with lots of ideas for individual rooms but no clear thread tying everything together.

That was the starting point for my client Sarah’s Georgian home.

Rather than approaching each space separately, we created one overall design direction for the house, so the kitchen, bathrooms, joinery and finishes could all work together as part of the same story.

A substantial renovation should not become another full-time job. Having a clear design direction from the outset makes the hundreds of decisions that follow much easier to navigate.

Interior design inspiration is a starting point, not something to copy exactly.

For this Georgian ensuite bathroom, my client loved the drama of the murals in her inspiration images, but they felt too bold for the calm, restful space we were creating.

So I took what she loved about them and translated it into something softer that worked with the wider scheme.

For our client Jen, we combined bold earthy tones, modern vintage influences and layered textures to create a clear visual direction for her new dream home.

The best colour palettes for period homes often start with the building itself.

Stone, timber, lime plaster, brick. I love pulling from those natural, earthy tones and then layering in pattern, texture, antiques and contemporary pieces to create something that feels considered, but completely at home in its surroundings.
