Take 2! 🧶

Vanessa has knitted the Weekend Sweater by PetiteKnit before, and the second time around is always the best time around.

This version is a dream. She paired Julie Asselin Boucle Lucie with Isager Yarn Silk Mohair, and the resulting fabric is exactly what you want from a sweater like this - soft and light enough for a spring day, but cosy enough to layer under when the temperature drops.

A word of honesty though: if you're newer to knitting, boucle can be a tricky yarn to work with (it's not always easy to see your stitches clearly). Vanessa's verdict is that having the pattern under your belt first makes the whole thing so much more enjoyable. Something to bear in mind when you're planning your next project.

Why I love Knit Night

Last night was our monthly Knit Night, and as always, it reminded me why we do this.

Yes, there were needles. Yes, there was yarn. But honestly? The knitting is almost beside the point.

What actually happened last night was a room full of people who came in maybe a little stressed, a little tired and left a couple of hours later with lighter shoulders and new friends. That's not nothing. That's actually quite a lot!

Knit Night happens on the first Thursday of every month. No project required. Just bring yourself, and maybe some yarn if you have it!

Next one: Thursday 2nd July. Come along.

The Yarn Story in two images🧶

Image 1: "Should it be DK or worsted? Merino or wool? A project whispers from the depths of my queue and I must find THE ONE..."

Image 2: FOUND IT. ✅
That moment when you spot it - the yarn that makes your whole project suddenly make sense. The colour that's been living rent-free in your head. The weight that was meant to be. The feeling when knitter meets yarn soulmate? Absolutely unbeatable!

Come browse our walls (we promise they're worth the journey!) and find your "ah ha" moment. We're here to help you hunt down the perfect skein.

In a world of screens, we'll keep the door open.

There's been a lot of chatter lately about the "future" of knitting: AI pattern generators, virtual knit-alongs, apps that count your stitches for you. And while we love a clever tool as much as anyone, it did make us pause and appreciate something rather lovely…

There is simply no app for the feeling of pushing open the door of a yarn shop on a sunny morning. No algorithm can recreate the squish test, the way a colour catches the light differently in real life, or the conversation that starts with "I'm stuck on a heel" and somehow ends in tea, laughter and three new project ideas.

That's what we're here for. A proper place to come and sit, squish, chat and be inspired by real yarn and real people who've been doing this a good while and love nothing more than sharing it.

So whether you've been knitting for five years or fifty, the kettle's on and the shelves are full. Pop in and see us on Walcot Street - we'd love to catch up.

Let's talk about names 🎨

We dare you to read through the Spincycle Dyed in the Wool colourways and not crack a smile. Devilish Grin. Stay Out of the Forest. Pick Your Poison. Dirty Little Secret. Purse First. Whoever names these is having far too much fun!

But the names are only half the magic. Dyed in the Wool is something rather special: each colour is dyed into the fibres separately, then spun together to create the most mesmerising marl. The result is a soft, squishy sportweight 100% American wool where the shades shift and shimmer as you knit, so every project tells its own story. No two skeins are ever the same.

And keep an eye out for Next Level - our very own custom colourway, exclusive to A Yarn Story and not available anywhere else!

Fresh off the Needles 🪡

🟡 Design: Camisole No. 10 by My Favourite Things
🟡 Knitted by: Susan
🟡 Yarn: Knitting for Olive Pure Silk in colour Sunflower

Susan knit this gorgeous camisole using three strands of Pure Silk held double on 5mm needles. Another quick knit and exactly the kind of summer wardrobe staple she'll reach for again and again! The Sunflower shade is so cheerful - perfect for brightening up those warmer days ahead.

It's a lovely versatile piece that works beautifully layered under a linen shirt or worn on its own when the sun's out. Susan loved how speedy this one was on the needles, and she's already eyeing up a few more shades to add to her summer collection!

What do you think? Is this one for your needles? If you'd like to see what we've recently finished, browse our Finished Knits on the website.
