Contrast doesn’t have to mean introducing a bold colour.

You can create just as much visual interest by putting different finishes, textures, shapes and materials alongside one another.

Think smooth against textured, matt beside something with a little sheen, curved furniture against straighter architectural lines, or warm timber alongside metal.
It’s these differences that give the eye somewhere to go and help stop a room feeling flat - even when you’re working with a very simple colour palette.

When planning a new kitchen, flooring might feel like a decision that can wait. We’d recommend making it much earlier.

Before you sign off on your kitchen, you should know what flooring you’re going to use. The colour and tone of the floor will influence how your cabinetry, worktops and wall colours sit together, so choosing it afterwards can leave you trying to make an important part of the room fit decisions that have already been made.
