A bedroom should be more than just a beautiful space. It should help you slow down, switch off and rest well.
When we’re designing a bedroom, we think as much about how a room feels as how it looks. The most restful spaces are rarely the ones with the boldest colours or the most dramatic features. Instead, they’re carefully balanced environments that support calm and comfort.
For Gertrude, we focused on four key principles:
đź’« Tonal restraint
A palette of soft, earthy hues creates a sense of cohesion and calm. By keeping colours closely related, the eye can move effortlessly around the room without distraction.
đź’« Visual balance
Symmetry isn’t essential but balance is. Thoughtfully placed furniture, lighting and accessories help a room feel settled and harmonious.
đź’« Texture over contrast
Rather than relying on strong colour contrasts, we layered natural materials and tactile fabrics to add depth and interest. Linen, velvet, wood and woven textures work together to create richness without overwhelming the space.
đź’« Reducing visual noise
A restful room doesn’t demand attention from every corner. By editing carefully and focusing on what truly adds value, the result feels calmer, more intentional and easier to live with.
The finished bedroom is soft, layered and quietly luxurious. A space designed to restore at the end of the day and ease you gently into the next.
