The gifting season is upon us and it has becoming increasingly difficult to not fall for generic gift sets! They are gorgeous no doubt, and some may feel handpicked exactly for who you are buying for, but many times they could be given to anyone!

The best gifts start with a little detective work. 👀

Not the kind that involves stalking someone’s social media. The kind where you actually listen.

Maybe they mentioned that one thing they’ve wanted for ages but never got around to buying. Maybe it’s something they absolutely love but can’t quite justify spending money on themselves.

Ever wondered why some of our pieces disappear for months and then suddenly pop back up?

It’s simple. Everything is made in small batches. When our artisans are busy making trays, coasters or placemats, other pieces have to wait their turn. And when a batch sells out, the next one might take a while.

So yes, we’re not always out of stock by choice. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of taking turns at the workshop! 😄

Six months ago, we booked our first tradeshow.

Since then, it’s all I eat, sleep, drink, breathe. Some nights I can’t even sleep, because my head is already on the stand.

I don’t know what I’m doing yet. Nerves and excitement, tied together.

But I know I want to be there. Maybe it’s the first of many.

If you’re invited to a new home, bring something that has a life beyond that evening.

Yes, flowers are lovely.

A box of really good chocolates? Always welcome.

But ask yourself: will they remember who brought them six months from now?

My blanket rule for housewarming gifts:

DO NOT BUY SOMETHING THEY CAN TOO.

If they can walk into the same department store and pick it up themselves on the way home, you’ve missed an opportunity.

Instead, look for something they wouldn’t necessarily find themselves.

Something handcrafted. Something with a story. Something they’ll actually use long after the last guest has left.

A tray that becomes part of their morning coffee ritual.

A beautiful bowl that ends up living on their kitchen counter.

A piece that makes them think of the person who gave it to them every time they use it.

Because a new home isn’t just an excuse to bring a gift.

It’s an opportunity to give them the first little piece of a home they’ll build memories in.

And honestly, I’d much rather give something they’ll still be using years from now than something they’ll forget by next Tuesday.

I live in two time zones.

My day starts on UK time. India’s already four and a half hours in.

Which means before I’ve even opened my eyes properly, my WhatsApp is already flooded. Workshops. My courier. My packaging guy. Some asking for approvals. Some telling me what’s gone wrong overnight.

That’s just what mornings look like for me now.

But I don’t look at any of it first.

I call my mum.

Not negotiable. Somewhere along the way it became more important than breakfast. I genuinely cannot start my day without hearing her voice first. I guess distance really does make the heart grow fonder.

Only after that do I let myself open everything else. Brace, and go through it one by one.

I’ve gotten better at this, these past few months.

The rush usually dies down by midday. That’s when I actually sit at my laptop and work.

Evenings are where it gets funny though. Around 5, 6pm, I’ll remember something small. A question. A follow-up. I’ll think — I’ll just send this now, they’ll reply in the morning.

And then the reply comes back. Right away.

And I catch myself thinking — no, please. Don’t reply right now. Do your thing, take some family time! Tell me tomorrow.

Two time zones, one business, and I still haven’t figured out how to fully switch off in either one.

Even better, throw in a US order in the mix and I’m replying to texts with one open eye tucked in my bed.

Because everything is handmade in small batches, I need a little lead time. 4-6 weeks is ideal, 2-3 weeks I can usually make work if you’re flexible on design.
