I specialise in the restoration of period antique furniture, mainly mid 18th - 19th Irish & English furniture.

Nothing is as beautiful as a table properly restored using only the finest in house made shellac polishes using only traditional hand French polishing techniques.
This fine Georgian table had suffered from very heavy use over the years & required stripping then bleaching followed by many hours spent carefully rebuilding the many thin layers of traditional shellac polish. When the fresh polish had fully hardened after a week the surface was then dulled with a combination of pumice then wax polish resulting in a beautiful warm glowing finish not looking too new with just the right level of shine..

This particular chair was extremely time consuming with all hand made mortise & Tenons along with details also all hand carved then traditional hand French polished to match the existing set.

You can see the early stages of rebuilding the finish on this badly damaged George III side table with pull out slides either end. With the top being heavily marked & stained it required stripping & sanding before bleaching with oxolic acid. I’m then rebuilding the finish with pure bleached pale shellac using proper old fashioned traditional Hand French polishing methods with a rubber. When this is completed after many hours work the surface is then dulled & waxed resulting in a nice mellow Georgian looking finish
