Industry Insights: A training certificate can be valid today and still create an operational gap next month.

That is why effective workforce planning starts well before the expiry date. The date is only one part of the picture. Employers also need to confirm the technician’s role, the correct scheme or refresher route, any prerequisites, project mobilisation dates, shift patterns and the cover required while the person is away training.

A useful 90-day review should answer four questions:

1. What competence is required for the work the technician will actually perform?
2. Is the planned course the correct scope and route—not simply the nearest available title?
3. When can training take place without leaving the project short of competent people?
4. Once completed, where will the updated evidence be recorded and made accessible?

Leaving those checks until the final weeks can narrow course availability and force reactive decisions. Planning earlier creates room to coordinate groups, protect operational cover and deal with any prerequisite or record issue before it becomes urgent.

Dangle Academy can support employers with training-matrix management, course coordination and 90-day renewal alerts. Speak to our team about a more controlled approach to workforce training.

Career Development: two spaces remain on our next four-day GWO Basic Safety Training course in Belfast.

Running from 7–10 September 2026, the course brings together four core safety modules:

- Manual Handling
- Fire Awareness
- Working at Heights
- First Aid

The training is designed for people preparing to work in wind turbine environments and for technicians who need recognised safety certification for their role. Across the four days, learners move beyond simply knowing the terminology. They examine the hazards each module addresses, practise the relevant procedures and build familiarity with the equipment and actions they may need in a wind-industry setting.

GWO training provides an industry-recognised safety foundation, but it should be viewed as part of a wider technical pathway. The qualifications and experience required will still depend on the role, employer and work environment you are pursuing.

With only two places remaining, anyone hoping to join the September course should confirm their place as soon as possible. View the course and book through dangleacademy.com, or speak to our team if you are unsure whether this is the right training route for your goals.

Career Development: first-day nerves are not unusual when everything—from the harness to moving on ropes—is new.

In a verified Google review, one learner described feeling “very nervous” before starting their IRATA Level 1 course. The review also highlights what helped: clear support from the instructors and staff throughout the week.

Level 1 training is not built around expecting a new learner to arrive confident. At Dangle Academy, techniques are introduced, demonstrated and practised across five full training days before the independent assessment on day six. Confidence may develop through that process, but the focus remains safe technique and practical competence.

View our IRATA courses or ask our team what to expect before your first day. What would you want to know before starting rope access training?

27/08/2026

Confidence on the ropes is built through practical training, repetition and time with the equipment.

At Dangle Academy in Belfast, our IRATA rope access courses include five full training days, giving candidates time to practise techniques and prepare for independent assessment on day six.

Our next course runs from 21–26 September 2026.

Whether you are starting at Level 1, progressing to the next level or preparing for revalidation, view the course details and speak to our team about the route that matches your current certification and experience.

A career change does not always mean starting from zero.

Experience gained in construction, engineering, the military, emergency services or other practical environments can bring valuable transferable skills into rope access, wind, telecoms and industrial work.

That experience may support the transition, but it does not replace role-specific training or practical competence. The right pathway will depend on the work you want to carry out, the certification employers require and any additional site or medical requirements.

At Dangle Academy in Belfast, we help new entrants understand the recognised training available and how it may fit their technical career goals.

GWO Advanced Rescue Training is designed for technicians who may need to recover an injured person from challenging areas inside a wind turbine generator.

It builds beyond the rescue skills covered within GWO BST Working at Heights, using practical scenarios, industry-standard rescue equipment and techniques relevant to the WTG environment.

ART-H focuses on rescue from the hub, spinner and inside the blade.

ART-N focuses on rescue from the nacelle, tower and basement.

The modules can be completed separately or together as Combined ART, depending on the role and employer requirements. Under the current GWO ART V6 standard, single-rescuer training is integrated into both initial and refresher modules.

Dangle Academy delivers GWO Advanced Rescue Training from our Belfast centre, giving technicians practical experience within purpose-built training environments before those skills are needed on site.

Need ART-H, ART-N or Combined ART? Tell our team whether you require initial or refresher training and the role you are preparing for, and we will help you choose the correct course.

Industrial painting is a technical skill—not simply applying a coat of paint.

Before a coating is applied, technicians need to understand the surface condition, preparation method, coating system, application equipment, environmental conditions and the checks used to assess the finished work.

Surface preparation has a direct impact on coating adhesion and performance. Safe application also depends on recognising product hazards and using controls, equipment and protective clothing suited to the task.

Training can build the foundations, but competence develops through correct practice and experience.

Dangle Academy provides industrial painter training from our Belfast centre.

The certificate should match the work.

Before booking training, it is worth checking:
• the standard the course follows
• whether the provider is approved by the relevant industry or certification body
• the certification awarded on completion
• any prerequisites and renewal requirements
• whether the employer, client or site specifies a particular scheme

Two courses with similar titles do not always lead to the same certification or level of recognition.

Dangle Academy provides recognised IRATA, GWO and EUSR training from our Belfast centre.

Unsure which certification your role or project requires? View our courses or send our team the requirements and we’ll help you identify the most suitable training pathway.

Working at height starts long before someone leaves the ground.

Each task should be properly planned, the risks assessed, suitable equipment selected and the people involved competent for the work. Supervision and emergency arrangements also need to reflect the task and environment.

The controls will vary, but the principle is consistent: prepare before work begins.

Dangle Academy delivers practical working-at-height training for individuals and teams across rope access, wind and telecoms environments from our Belfast training centre.

The inspection starts with the access plan.

Before an inspection begins, the team needs a safe way to reach the work area, maintain secure positioning and respond if conditions change.

For difficult-access assets, planning should consider:
• the access method and rope paths
• suitable anchorage
• structure and surface conditions
• dropped-object controls
• weather and environmental exposure
• team competence, supervision and rescue arrangements

Only once access is controlled can the technical inspection be completed safely and efficiently.

Dangle® supports inspection, maintenance and repair in hard-to-reach industrial environments.

Planning an inspection in a difficult-access location? Speak to our team about a safe, practical access and inspection solution for your site.
