5 things I wish everyone knew BEFORE renovating their home… 🏡
Planning a renovation? Before you start choosing kitchens, knocking down walls or falling in love with paint colours, here are five things I’d love you to know!
1. GET THE LAYOUT RIGHT FIRST
Think about how you actually want to live in your home. Where will your furniture go? How will you move around the space? Where will you relax, entertain or work? Sometimes rethinking the layout can make a bigger difference than adding extra square metres.
2. PLAN YOUR LIGHTING EARLY 💡
Don’t leave lighting until the electrician arrives! Think about where you’ll need task lighting, softer mood lighting and decorative wall lights. Even the positioning of sockets and switches should be considered alongside your furniture layout.
3. THINK ABOUT THE WHOLE HOME
It’s easy to choose a gorgeous kitchen, flooring or paint colour individually, but will everything work beautifully together? Having a clear design direction from the beginning helps create a home that feels cohesive rather than a collection of separate rooms.
4. DON’T FORGET THE FINISHING TOUCHES
Building work, kitchens and bathrooms can quickly swallow your budget. But furniture, curtains, rugs and lighting are what really bring a home to life. Make sure you allow for these from the outset rather than leaving them as an afterthought.
5. INVOLVE YOUR INTERIOR DESIGNER EARLY
One of the biggest misconceptions is that interior designers come in once the building work is finished. Actually, getting us involved during the planning stage means we can help with layouts, lighting, materials and those all-important details before expensive decisions are made.
✨ My biggest piece of advice?
Don’t just think about how your renovated home will LOOK. Think about how you want it to FEEL and how you want to LIVE in it.
Because a beautiful home should work just as wonderfully as it looks.
Save this for your renovation plans, or share it with someone who’s about to start theirs!
