BIG NEWS

I have been sitting up a tree and the tree has spoken.

After 12 years of running a shop, 9 in Tooting and 3 in Bexhill I have decided that it's time to move onwards.

I love running a shop, I love my customers and I love the space but equally I love being an art pusher, I love working creatively with my local communities and collaborating with amazing people and organisations and realise that the shop is slightly impeding this now.

So...... if anyone is interested in taking on the shop, that would be my best. I am going to continue running the shop online, and if you're local I will be more than happy to deliver.

We will also be selling the 'essentials' chocolate, art materials and a few other items at just a tiny bit further up the road and I will still be championing London Road to the 'grown ups'. And it goes without saying that I will be promoting independent shops to everyone.

In its current guise, the shop will be open until end of August and to celebrate all that it is, I'm going to be offering a 20% discount on everything from tomorrow.

All the creative workshops and projects for all ages are already running out of the and we will be adding more and more. From September, I can be found there as well as with everything we do with .communities and of course I'll be pouring more energy into

Life choices, do you ever question yours?

I have a rare quiet moment to myself, feet up (not on the chair Mum, promise) waiting for a workshop to start in our new lovely space further up London Road.

As I wait I start to inevitably scroll and my algorithms are set so that I chance upon more and more businesses like mine going under.

Shouting out their last breath to the world as they fall under the girders of the corporation.

And of course this feels too close to home, there are often times in the shop when it is me, myself and I. A financier would come storming in and say close, try join the rest of the world and get 'a proper job' but there is such a course of hope that powers through me that I cling on, hoping that others will see how it is important that we have choice, integrity and things that aren't 'controlled' by a hidden weave of hedge funds and corporations.

Also, yes there is also bewilderment when people tell me to get a 'proper job'. I trained at art school for 7 years, same as a GP or Architect. I 'reared' children in a period I call the dark ages because this period is never recognised by many and so slowly again popping out the other side I am savage in my passion to do everything I do and want to do. Caveat, it was my choice to have children and I love them very much, but does mean you have a period of the 'missing years'. 🤣

So out of my pondering is this. Does it really take too much effort to walk into town to shop at your independents...

I would far prefer my very hard earned money cash go to a real person that is passionate about what they do than to a shiny corporation who often treats their staff and customers as faceless commodities.

Not sure if the person outside in the van agrees?

How do I say this politely, not all chocolate found in a supermarket is as ethical or wholesome as they make out.

Much better to support a local bean to bar maker every time..
