🔌 EV Charging Without the Cost of a Full Wall Charger 🔌

Not every EV or PHEV owner needs a full dedicated charging point.

For customers who mainly want to top up overnight, maintain charge or charge a plug-in hybrid, a professionally installed EV-rated outdoor socket can be a practical and cost-effective solution.

For this installation we provided a dedicated weather-resistant EV charging socket, correctly supplied and tested for the intended use rather than relying on an ordinary outdoor socket or extension lead.

Benefits include:

✅ Dedicated EV/PHEV charging point
✅ Suitable for portable “granny” chargers
✅ Weather-resistant outdoor installation
✅ Convenient overnight/top-up charging
✅ Professional electrical testing on completion
✅ Lower upfront cost than a full EV wall charger

The important part is that EV charging places a continuous load on a socket for long periods, so the circuit, protective devices, connections and socket all need to be suitable for the job.

If you don’t need rapid home charging but want a safe, convenient place to plug in your EV or PHEV, speak to AG Electrical about the options available.

🌙 Porch Lighting Upgrade – Ready for the Darker Evenings 🌙

A simple upgrade that makes coming home in the dark much easier.

We replaced the existing manually switched outside light with motion-sensor dual spotlights in the porch area.

Now, instead of getting through the front door and realising the entrance light was never switched on, the lights come on automatically as you approach.

That means:

✅ Easier to find the lock and keys
✅ Better visibility around the front door
✅ No need to leave lights on unnecessarily
✅ Extra security deterrent
✅ Ideal for darker autumn and winter evenings

It’s one of those small electrical upgrades that makes a noticeable difference every single day.

If your outside lighting is dated, poorly positioned or still relies on manual switching, AG Electrical can upgrade it to something far more practical.

⚡ When was the last time the electrics in your home were actually checked? ⚡️

A lot of homeowners assume that because the lights work and the sockets have power, the electrical installation must be safe.

Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case.

We recently carried out an EICR for a customer who had just moved into their new home. The inspection found wiring believed to be more than 75 years old, asbestos-containing fuse carriers and lighting circuits with no protective earth, despite metal light fittings being installed.

The result was an unsatisfactory EICR and a recommendation for a rewire.

That’s not the news anyone wants after moving house, but it has put the customer in a much stronger position. They now know exactly what they’re dealing with and can plan the refurbishment properly, rather than spending money decorating around an electrical installation that needs major work.

It raises a good question for any homeowner:

Do you actually know the condition of the wiring hidden behind your walls?

An EICR can uncover:
✅ Old or deteriorated wiring
✅ Missing earthing
✅ Inadequate protection
✅ Unsafe alterations
✅ Problems that aren’t visible during a normal house viewing

If you’ve recently bought a property, live in an older home, or simply can’t remember when the electrics were last inspected, it may be worth getting them checked.

AG Electrical provides professional EICRs, electrical testing, fault finding and rewires across Billericay and surrounding Essex areas.

⚡ Garage Electrical Upgrade – Built Around How the Space Is Actually Used ⚡️

A recent garage upgrade for a customer who uses the space for DJ equipment storage, a workbench and loading/unloading an entertainment trailer.

We added:

✅ 4 new socket positions
✅ New U-shaped LED lighting for bright, even coverage
✅ Two-way lighting with switches at the front and newly installed rear door
✅ Garage door supply moved from a plug top to a proper fused spur
✅ Summer house supply removed from an unsuitable plug-top arrangement and upgraded to a rotary isolator
✅ General tidy-up and improvement of the existing setup

The result is a much more practical, safer and better organised garage with power where it’s needed and proper lighting for working, storage and loading equipment.

At AG Electrical, we don’t just add sockets and lights — we look at how you actually use the space and build the electrical installation around it.

💨 Bathroom staying damp after showers? The fan might not be the only problem 💨

We recently installed a new high-performance inline bathroom extractor fan in the loft, together with insulated ducting to improve ventilation and help reduce condensation.

Good bathroom extraction is essential. Poor ventilation can lead to:

✅ Black mould and mildew
✅ Condensation on walls and ceilings
✅ Peeling paint and damaged decoration
✅ Musty smells
✅ Excess moisture within the property

One detail that is often overlooked is the ducting.

Warm, moisture-heavy air travelling through a cold loft can cool quickly inside standard uninsulated ducting, causing condensation to form within the pipe. That moisture can collect, affect performance and even drip back toward the fan or bathroom.

That’s why we use insulated ducting where appropriate helping to reduce condensation inside the ductwork and improve the long-term reliability of the installation.

If your bathroom remains damp long after a shower, the mirror takes ages to clear or mould keeps returning, the issue may be inadequate extraction rather than just decoration.

AG Electrical provides professional bathroom extractor fan installation, inline fan upgrades, ventilation improvements and electrical fault finding across Billericay and surrounding Essex areas.

✨ The finishing touches make the difference ✨

A stunning house renovation in Ingatestone now reaching the final stages, and this visit was all about completing the look with a selection of premium decorative light fittings.

Our approach is simple:

✅ Protect floors, worktops and surrounding finishes

✅ Keep the work area clean and tidy
✅ Test everything before completion
✅ Treat the finished home with the care it deserves

⚡ Still relying on an older split-load consumer unit? There’s a better way ⚡️

We recently upgraded this installation to a modern Hager RCBO consumer unit with surge protection, giving the customer far better protection and much less disruption if a fault develops.

With many older consumer units, several circuits share one RCD. That means a single fault can knock out half the property at once — lighting, sockets, heating or appliances. That’s inconvenient enough when you’re at home, but even worse if it happens while you’re away.

With individual RCBO protection, each circuit has its own fault protection, so one problem is far less likely to take out everything else.

A modern consumer unit can offer:

✅ Individual RCBO protection
✅ Reduced nuisance tripping
✅ Type 2 surge protection
✅ Improved fault finding
✅ Clear circuit identification
✅ Modern metal enclosure
✅ Better protection for today’s electrical equipment
✅ Easier future additions and upgrades
✅ Full testing and certification on completion

If your fuse board is dated, still has shared RCD protection, or you’re planning renovations, EV charging, additional circuits or smart-home upgrades, it may be time to modernise it.

🔥 A serious reminder of why electrical safety checks and working fire alarms matter 🔥

We recently attended a property following a major fire involving a garden room/outbuilding.

The exact cause of the fire is currently unknown, so it would be wrong to speculate whether it was electrical, accidental or deliberate. What the damage does show very clearly is just how quickly fire can spread and how important it is to make sure your property has the right protection in place.

Regular Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) can help identify deteriorated wiring, damaged accessories, poor connections, overloaded circuits and other electrical safety concerns before they become more serious.

It’s also vital to make sure your smoke and heat alarms are:
✅ In date
✅ Correctly positioned
✅ Interlinked where appropriate
✅ Tested regularly using the test button

A few minutes checking your alarms could make a huge difference in an emergency.

If you have an older property, garden room, outbuilding, rental property or you simply don’t know when your electrics were last inspected, it may be worth getting them checked.

AG Electrical provides:
⚡ EICRs & electrical safety inspections
⚡ Fault finding & remedial works
⚡ Smoke & heat alarm installation
⚡ Garden room & outbuilding electrics
⚡ Landlord electrical testing

☀️ A cooler, more comfortable bedroom during the hot weather

With the recent warm nights, this elderly customer had been struggling to sleep comfortably.

We installed a modern electric ceiling fan with integrated LED lighting, giving them a simple and effective way to circulate the air and make the bedroom feel much cooler.

The fan includes:

✅ Six speed settings
✅ Remote control
✅ Integrated LED light
✅ Forward and reverse operation
✅ One, two and four-hour timer settings
✅ Quiet, energy-efficient operation

The remote means everything can be adjusted easily from bed, including the fan speed, light and timer—ideal for anyone with limited mobility or who simply wants more comfort overnight.

Ceiling fans don’t cool the air like air conditioning, but the airflow creates a noticeable cooling effect and they’re inexpensive to run compared with many other options.

The customer can now hopefully enjoy a much more comfortable night’s sleep.

AG Electrical provides professional ceiling fan installation, bedroom lighting, electrical repairs and domestic electrical services throughout Billericay and the surrounding Essex areas.

🐟 Protecting a customer’s pond… and their prized fish!

A recent job completed in South Green, Billericay, where the customer had been having regular visits from herons helping themselves to the fish in the pond.

We installed a professionally wired heron deterrent system, ensuring every external connection was enclosed using IP-rated junction boxes, waterproof cable glands and weatherproof fittings. Outdoor electrics need to withstand the British weather, so using the correct products is just as important as the installation itself.

While we were there, we also installed a series of LED floodlights along the outbuilding, providing much better visibility and security around the garden.

With a view like this, it’s easy to see why they wanted to protect the pond! 🌅

Whether you need:
💡 Garden lighting
🔦 Security floodlights
🐟 Pond and water feature electrics
