Out with the old, in with the glow 🔥

Swipe to see this fireplace transformation! We ripped out the old surround as it wasn't providing any heat and replaced it with a stunning Symphony Solo 5 woodburner, complete with an composite oak beam and trusty black granite hearth.

Nothing beats a real flame on a cold night. I know - I KNOW. You can't even think about being cold right now, but trust me, give it a few more weeks and you'll be BEGGING for heat!!

…and yes, before you ask — the fish were safely relocated during the works 🐟😂

"I can just fit the woodburning stove myself..."

The BIGGEST red flag we see in our industry. The question we get asked by "handy" people. Another popular one - "my builder can fit my stove, right?"

The answer is, theoretically, yes.

BUT if you want an installation that's safe, compliant with Building Regulations, and comes with the certification most homeowners need, then it's a job best left to a qualified, HETAS-registered installer.

A woodburning stove isn't just another DIY project. You're dealing with fire, high temperatures, chimney systems and carbon monoxide. Getting it wrong can lead to expensive remedial work, insurance complications, and potential issues when it comes time to sell your home, and not to scare you, but we’re not even getting on to the big thing - danger of death.

Every installation should come with a HETAS Certificate of Compliance, giving you peace of mind that the work has been carried out correctly and safely, and for a lot of the UK, this won't be possible if your builder does the installation, or if you do it, so check with your local authority to see what your local rules and regs are.

Thinking about a woodburning stove? Follow us for honest advice, installation tips and plenty of stove inspiration, with a side order of sibling rivalry.

And if you're local to the West Midlands, why not book an appointment and come and chat to us? We'll help you find the right stove and talk you through everything you need to know before you buy. Link to book is https://calendly.com/abbeyfirecentre

"What's the best wood burner for a standard UK home?"

It's the question we get asked the most, and our answer surprises most people...because there isn't one "best" stove. There is the best stove for YOU and YOUR home.

In fact, one of the biggest mistakes we see is people choosing a stove that's too powerful for the room because they want something that looks substantial, or they want something that will heat their entire house (and that’s a post for a whole other day 👀).

A stove that's too large can overheat the space, burn less efficiently and leave you sitting in just your pants because your lounge feels like the surface of the sun - no one wants that.

OR - you go the other way and under use the stove which leads to more soot and carbon deposits on the glass, even if the manufacturers marketing or the salesperson has told you it has the cleanest glass in all the land. Honestly - you could pay £6 million for stove and YOU will still send the glass black!

For most homes, a well-designed medium sized 4-5kW stove is all that's needed to create that cosy fireside feeling.

Stoves like the Contura 110, the Town & Country Alandale, the Archer Challenger 5, the Clock Blithfield 5 Compact and the Symphony Solo 5 are all excellent examples of models that can work beautifully in smaller spaces when matched to the right room.

So, my stove students, what have we learnt?

That's right. The key isn't finding the "best" stove. It's finding the right stove.

One of the loveliest things about running a family business for so many years is this…
Some customers become so much more than customers. ❤️

Ronnie is one of our favourites - and NOT just because over the years he has cooked and brought us some of the most incredible jerk chicken and festival dumplings known to mankind 🔥😂 but because he is just one of LIFE’S good people.

Warm. Genuine. Interesting. Kind.

Every time Ronnie pops in, we end up chatting for ages - about life, family, work, the world, all the things he’s done and seen. He always asks how everyone is. He always takes the time.

Honestly, that says everything about the type of customer base we’ve built over the years. It's the really lovely thing about word of mouth - lovely customers recommend lovely customers.

So when we opened our emails this morning and read this message from Ronnie, it genuinely stopped us in our tracks:

“Abbey Fire Centre is not simply about location, it is about your attitude, your integrity, and your customer focus.”

We honestly can’t tell you how much that meant to us all. Especially during a time that has felt emotional, uncertain and bittersweet in so many ways.

Because yes, we may be leaving the premises we’ve called home for 45 years - but the relationships, the trust and the community we’ve built? That comes with us.

So thank you, Ronnie. For your support, your kindness, your loyalty… and your cooking 😂🔥

We can’t wait to welcome you into the new office in Boldmere for a posh coffee very soon. (Although we’ll happily still accept dumplings too.)

We have just ONE ex-display stove left in the showroom that needs a new home! It is the fabulous Solo 5 log burner from Symphony Fires. We've had it on display for only around four months so it's had very light usage, but it dies mean it will be a bargain price!

RRP £1150 inc VAT, Ex-display price will be £600.

Please share, share, share for anyone who would like a bargain and to help us get it gone!

It will be available this week 🔥

Never in the history of log burner installations has anyone decorated this quickly 😂🔥

Honestly, we installed this log burner in Sutton Coldfield, and within TWO WEEKS we had these photos through from the lovely customer with the paint-stained dog (IYKYK) - who, by the way, will forever be remembered in Abbey Fires history 🐶🎨

And LOOK at it 😍

This is why we always bang on about the finishing touches - the décor, the styling, the little details - they make such a difference and completely bring the fireplace and log burner to life.

We also need to talk about this review because reviews like this genuinely mean the world to us:

“Fantastic family business, no hidden costs, excellent customer service and installation. Would highly recommend anyone looking to have a log burner - look no further, you won't be disappointed. Thank-you for my dream fire x”

Firstly - Thank YOU, Amanda ❤️
Secondly - former customers, this is your warning… I may start knocking on doors asking for updated photos because clearly some of you have been holding out on us for YEARS 😂

Seeing our log burners and fireplaces become part of your homes never gets old🔥

Some news is hard to write. This is one of those posts.

After 45 years in Erdington, Abbey Fire Centre is moving.
Not because we wanted to.
Not because business is slowing down.
But because our landlords are redeveloping the site, and it’s time for us to start a new chapter.

When one of our lovely customers, Ronnie, emailed us after hearing the news, he said something that really stuck with us…

“Don't lose sight of the fact that Abbey Fire Centre is not simply about location, it is about your attitude, your integrity, and your customer focus.”

And he’s right.
This business has never been built on flashy marketing, sponsored ads, or sales campaigns. It’s been built on word of mouth. On recommendations. On customers telling their friends and family, “Go and see them, they’ll look after you.”
Which means more to us than you’ll ever know.

Because whilst the location may change, we haven’t.
Same family.
Same values.
Same honesty.
Same banter.
Same care.
Same obsession with getting things right.

We’re still HERE ❤️🔥

From June, we’ll be based in Boldmere, working by appointment only - and honestly, this move reflects how much the business has naturally evolved over the last few years, because, yes, fireplaces are still the biggest part of what we do, but many of you already know we’ve quietly become the people you call for far more than that…

Cabinetry. Panelling. Renovations. Bespoke projects. Problem solving. Occasional marriage counselling when couples can’t agree on tiles 😂.

We’ll share more on that soon.

For now, we just want to say thank you.
To every customer who has supported us, recommended us, left us reviews, popped in for a chat, or trusted us in your homes over the years.

45 years and still thriving in one place is special.
But we genuinely believe the best part of Abbey Fire Centre was never the building.

It was, and is, the people in it and who have gone before us. We hope we’ve made you proud Dad🤍

🔥 NO CHIMNEY - NO ISSUE🔥

We'll build you one! Our lovely customers have moved into a house where there is no chimney - instead a very long living space which was crying out for a focal point that wasn't the telly!

So we created a chimney breast that gave a little bit of shape to the room, positioned in such a way that if they decide in a few years they would rather have gas, they can fit a blanked flue gas stove, but for now it houses the wonderful Huntingdon 30 electric stove from Gazco, with a black granite hearth and a standard fascia beam.

Can't wait to see it decorated - this customer has an eye for details so it'll be good!!!
