Metallix I am a metal embosser and mixed media artist. I use my hand drawn designs to create covers for books, journals, boxes and original mixed media canvases.

I’m Mel Berman, a South African born pewter artist now living in the U.K. I have always been creative…..always dabbling in some form of craft, from cake baking to printing, to making children’s fancy dress costumes …..but have never been able to stick to one medium for long…..and then I found metal embossing!! On a trip back to Cape Town a few years ago, I joined a friend on a pewter embossing wor

kshop and was captivated by this versatile metal.Pewter has a lustre that can captivate light or darken to form shadow. It’s malleability enables it to be engraved and embossed with a few simple tools…and can be used to decorate a variety of objects or be used in mixed media works. I work in both pewter and copper, as well as a bit of aluminium and metal tape. As well as the metal, I add different coloured foils and use waxes and inks to enhance or distress the surface pattern. Two years ago I started Metallix. It has always been a dream to have a studio and to teach things that I love doing, both of which have become reality. I run workshops during the day and evening...and create the things I love on my 'off' days....Absolute heaven! 😊💖

Join us for a full‑day Saturday crafting retreat where you’ll create a beautiful jewellery box and two hanging ornaments using hand‑embossed pewter. This relaxing workshop includes all materials as well as a delicious ploughman’s lunch.
The retreat takes place on Saturday 16th May, in a spacious Safari Tent set within the grounds of Mid‑England Barrow in Farnborough. Breathe in the country air, learn a new craft, have lunch with some like-minded crafty people and meet new friends.
The price of the workshop for a full day, including all materials, lunch, homemade cake and teas and coffees, is £110
Your tutor, Mel, is an experienced metal embosser and mixed‑media artist with many years of teaching experience.You will learn the relaxing craft of low and high relief embossing, how to patina and polish and will then accent your design with alcohol inks. The group will be kept small to ensure plenty of individual attention.
This is a beginners workshop, and no artistic or crafting ability is required. You’ll be guided step‑by‑step using stencils and tracings.

I know this is short notice...but I have two spaces left on my workshop tomorrow(Tuesday 24th at 10am) I would love to have them filled.

Come and learn the art of metal embossing.
Three different techniques will be used to make these hanging ornaments. You will learn to emboss in low and high relief on pewter and copper and learn how to layer in metal tape. The decorations will be coloured with different waxes and inks and embellished with ribbon and beads.
No artistic ability is required as you will be working from stencils and tracings.

We had a lovely, mindful workshop this week. We focused on simple, repetitive patterns...an active meditation that calms the mind and soothes the soul. While on this workshop, my ladies learned basic different techniques of patterning, and experimented with shading and colour. The knowledge of repetition was then used to design and create a mandala, some gift tags and cards.

No prior craft experience or drawing skills are needed for this two and a half hour workshop! Tap into your inner artist, reduce stress and find your flow with us!
