Birmingham Glass Services LTD Mick Skerrett and his partners founded West Heath based BIRMINGHAM GLASS SERVICES LIMITED in the late eighties.

Based in Birmingham but operating nationally, we’ve been making and installing our own UPVC doors, windows, porches, and conservatories for both domestic and trade customers since the 1980s. More than twenty years on, from its factory and retail counter at 1 Lightning Way, West Heath, BIRMINGHAM GLASS SERVICES LIMITED now encompasses three trading divisions – UPVC manufacture & installation, glass

supply / glazing works and building refurbishment as well as operating a trade / retail sales counter. The main work for the company is now via UPVC contracts, for both domestic and commercial customers. We fabricate and install our own UPVC doors, windows, doors and conservatories for both trade customers and members of the public using Deceuninck – Heritage 2800 profile. We employ over twenty members of staff who are all fully trained and qualified. Our years of experience mean that we are qualified to deal with all types of glass and glazing requirements to suit our clients needs. Over the years we have built up close working relationships with local housing authorities and health authorities including the National Health Trust, Birmingham City Council (schools) and Bournville Village Trust . The office and retail counter at 1 Lightning Way, West Heath, are open to both trade customers and the general public five days a week. Opening hours are 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday and we welcome visitors at any time.

Working for a glazing company was never on Mike's radar as a kid and being forced to work throughout the summer holidays made it even less desirable 🤣 but, somehow it became the best decision but hardest experience of his life.

Summer holidays are some of the busiest times of year for us here at Birmingham Glass, because we're trusted by so many of the local schools to replace all of their old aluminium windows and doors for new, modern, energy efficient uPVC ones.

But, they all have to be finished before the kids go back to school in September so we make sure we're working to a very efficient deadline.

No matter whether we're fitting at a house, a school, hospital or any other building we treat the job with the same care and attention to detail.

Not everyone has been on board with some of the changes that have happened since Mike bought the company from his Dad.

The company still holds its values and reputation from 36 years of serving the local community, but is progressing into the new, modern way of life compared to the 80s.

All companies have to change eventually, but some things need to stay the same to keep the same trusted reputation, which is exactly what Mike is trying to balance now.

Started in a shed, now we're here! 😄

Caught Mike on his way to work and asked him about the history of Birmingham Glass and how it all started from the garden shed when he was a baby.

Now Mike's bought the company from his dad, the values of this family-run local company still remain.

Unlike most big window and door companies, who are sales offices with subcontractors and outsourced manufacturing, we do everything in house and all our fitters are employed directly which not only means we control quality all the way through the process but also we give much more care to each of our customers.

We often install the windows and doors across the region for Beast Sheds (you've probably seen their van parked up across the motorway bridge)
