Happy International Women’s Day! 👷🏻‍♀️🔨✏️🪚💜

Yesterday was International Women’s Day 2026, and this year, it feels more important than ever.

Women make up less than 15% of the workforce in the construction industry and this is for a number of reasons. This kind of work can often be viewed as not ‘women’s work’ and maybe that women aren’t strong enough or capable of carrying out jobs in this sector. As well as this, safety equipment and clothing is often made and designed to fit men, making it difficult for women to access proper PPE.

But here at The Stained Leaded Glass Company, we are proud to say more than half of our staff are very capable women. So please join us in celebrating the women that make our business a great one and while you’re at it, have a look at some of our ‘women’s work’.

I’ve tried to get some photos from outside with the lights on but I don’t think they really do it justice. I can’t wait to see the morning sunshine tomorrow!”

For this project we designed and made the nine stained glass panels for the client's front door to complement the surrounding original panels and match the home’s Victorian character. Every detail was considered to ensure the new panels blend seamlessly alongside the original glass.

The transformation isn’t quite finished yet, the client is looking forward to some sunnier days so the paintwork can be completed and the glass can really come to life. When the sun shines through, it will cast beautiful coloured refractions into the hallway ☀️

Happy New Year from us all at The Stained Leaded Glass Company!

This lovely project was finished just before Christmas, and now, on our first day back in cold, snowy weather, the swallows in the design feel like a promise of spring to come.

The customer was delighted with the finished result, and we really enjoyed working closely with them to bring their ideas to life.

Another recent project: restoring and encapsulating a Victorian stained glass door that had seen better days. The glass was cleaned, repaired, and encapsulated inside a toughened triple-glazed unit to bring it up to modern standards, all while preserving its original character.

A couple of weeks ago, we had the immense pleasure of attending the grand opening of the beautiful Memory Garden at Wigan & Leigh Hospice.

Last month we made and donated several fused glass daisies, replicating the hospice’s logo. These were then fitted into wooden posts that add some decoration, but also serve as leaning posts for those who aren’t able to get around easily.

The daisies were made from hand cut clear and opaque fusing glass and sprinkled with frit (finely ground glass) to create a tactile surface once fired. You can see our Craftswoman Tamsin, who made the daisies standing proudly with the leaning posts in the photos.

We think the garden looks beautiful, and feel very privileged to have contributed to it even in a small way. The garden was designed by John Williams from Eco Designs and it was a pleasure to work with him on this project. Many aspects of the garden were made and donated by local artisans and businesses 🌼

A wonderful project we have been a part of recently for Wigan & Leigh Hospice 🌼

We have a very special Thank you Thursday to bring you this week!

Our brand-new Memory Garden in our hospice grounds is now complete, and we have some incredible people to thank for helping us turn our ideas into reality 🌼

Here are some beautiful photos of restored and encapsulated stained glass glistening in the sunshine. We think it looks amazing in the new timber front door! 🌞

This project was in collaboration with SK Joinery, and it’s wonderful to see the stained glass shining once again. Each panel was carefully cleaned, restored and encapsulated within toughened triple glazed units, then refitted into a brand new door and surrounding frame, ensuring it stays clean, secure and protected for many years to come.
