Mail order art materials with great discounts and excellent service! Based in Bolton, England, Ken Bromley Art Supplies came about as a result of the popularity of the famous Ken Bromley Perfect Paper Stretcher. In 1994, in response to feedback from artists who had bought the stretcher board, we began to supply watercolour paper for use with the board, a service we called ‘Paper by Post’. The success of this service lead us to expand our product range to include paints, brushes and accessories. We are continually growing our product range in response to our customer feedback and continue to offer great discounts on all our ranges. We also strive to offer the best customer service possible, as a family run business, we take pride in the personalised service we offer, listening to our customers and doing everything we can to make buying from us a great experience.

🖌️ Most of us find one acrylic and stick to it. Our acrylic sale only comes round twice a year, so it’s a good excuse to try the one you’ve been skipping.

Liquitex runs from buttery-thick Heavy Body, which holds a knife mark, through smooth, yoghurt-like Soft Body and Acrylic Gouache, to milk-thin Acrylic Inks. Add mediums and you can push any of them further.

There’s 30% off RRP on W&N and Liquitex Professional paints, with a free 125ml W&N Acrylic Flow Improver when you order 6+ loose paints. Mediums, Liquitex inks and Freestyle knives and brushes are 33% off RRP:

🙈 We’ve all got one of these stories.

One of us once went to add a final touch without realising the brush was loaded with the wrong colour, and daubed a big blob of phthalo blue right across a painting that was nearly done. Anyone who’s used phthalo knows how far a little of it goes.

Knocked-over brush water, the wrong colour on the brush, a line that ran the moment the wash went on…what’s the moment that undid hours of your work? Tell us in the comments 👇

💡 The clocks go back on Sunday, which means more painting by lamplight for most of us.

Daylight’s lamps are colour matched to natural light, so the colours you mix in the evening are much easier to trust in the morning, and they’re kinder on your eyes over a long session. There are table and floor lamps with single or dual heads, plus the Wafer lightboxes in A4, A3 and A2+, which are handy for tracing an Inktober sketch onto clean paper before you ink it.

There’s up to an extra 14% off Daylight lamps and lightboxes until Sunday 25/10/2026:

✏️ Do you let your pencil lines show? Some of you rub every last line out before the paint goes on, while others love seeing a little of the drawing peeking through the finished piece. Draw your sketch in watercolour pencil, though, and the water can carry it straight into the painting.

We'll go first: we're Team Leave It In! We draw quite lightly, and we love the bit of character those lines give a finished piece. It stops it looking too polished.

Team rub it out, team leave it in, or team let the water take it? Tell us which and why in the comments! 👇

🌈 Ecoline bottles and pens make such a good pair. The brush pens are filled with the same vibrant ink as the bottles, so you can wash in colour from the bottle, straight or diluted, then go back in with the flexible brush tip for detail and lettering. When the pen runs low, just refill it from the bottle.

Because Ecoline is dye-based, we'd save it for your sketchbook and any work you'll scan or photograph, which makes it a brilliant fit for Inktober.

The whole range is 40% off RRP at the moment: artsupplies.co.uk/ecolineink

Bottle, pen or both? How would you use them? 🤔

🥛 Liquitex Acrylic Ink pours just like milk, as you can see in this video. It's artists' pigments in a fluid acrylic binder, so you get the same vibrant colours as the Liquitex acrylic range in a form you can draw and wash with. No wonder so many of you reach for it during Inktober.

What we really love is what happens once it's dry. It forms a permanent film that won't reactivate, even if you splash water on it, so you can wash or draw over the top without disturbing a thing underneath.

🖌️ Does your signature wobble with a brush in hand? It happens to so many of us. A signature that flows perfectly in pen can fall apart the moment you try it with a loaded brush.

Liz from our shop has some brilliant advice. Start with your everyday handwriting and try lots of versions, then practise big with a large brush or a wide Posca pen to build muscle memory. Aim for something you can make quickly, confidently and consistently, and practise it on scraps of the same surface with the paint you actually use. It doesn't even have to match the signature on your bank card!
