I think I've accidentally invented a new sport. ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿฅ

It's called Dahlia Frisbee.

The rules are simple.

Grow some absolutely gorgeous dahlias.

Decide you're going to dry them because you're clearly not busy enough.

Spend a week experimenting with the bloody things.

Watch your beautiful flowers slowly transform into what looks suspiciously like sporting equipment.

I'm a WEEK into trying to dry these beauties, and I'm starting to suspect the results may be identical to my last attempt.

Flat.

Crispy.

And probably capable of taking someone's eye out in a strong wind. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I really, REALLY want this to work because imagine having homegrown dahlias available long after the growing season has finished.

But at the moment, I'm hovering somewhere between promising experiment and flower-shaped digestive biscuit.

Back to the drawing board? Or should I give them a little longer.

๐ŸŒฑ3 SEEDS TO CONSIDER SOWING THIS AUTUMN!
Who said gardening was finished for the year?
The dahlias are being evicted, the weather has started behaving like a miserable old uncle, and naturally, I've found three more things to sow.
Because apparently, I need more gardening jobs. ๐Ÿ˜‚
๐ŸŒฑSWEET PEAS
Autumn sowing can give you a head start on next year's flowers.
๐ŸŒธ LARKSPUR
Tall flower spikes and gorgeous purple & pink tones. Definitely one to consider for a cutting garden.
๐Ÿ’œSTOCKS
Lovely flowers that can add something special to your flower garden and arrangements.
Check the instructions for your particular varieties before sowing, as the best timing and growing conditions can differ.
Now, I have a question for youโ€ฆ
ARE YOU STILL SOWING SEEDS, OR HAVE YOU OFFICIALLY CLOSED THE GARDEN FOR WINTER?๐Ÿ˜‚
Tell me below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŒพย Fresh flowers have their season. Dried flowers get to stay a little longer!ย ๐ŸŒธ

I've been busy making bunches of dried flowers here at Forgotten Flowers, and there's something rather lovely about flowers that don't need a vase full of water, don't wilt after a few days, and don't require you to remember anything at all. ๐Ÿ˜‚

They're a little reminder of summer, just when the garden is starting to wind down.

But I have a question for you!

Where would you put a bunch of dried flowers in your home?ย ๐Ÿก

๐ŸŒธ On the kitchen table?
๐ŸŒพ On a bedroom dresser?
๐Ÿ’ In the hallway?
๐Ÿค” Somewhere I haven't thought of?

Tell me in the comments. I'm genuinely curious!

And here's another question for you:ย Do you prefer fresh flowers or dried flowers?ย You won't hurt my feelings either way. Well, not much. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Prize Draw for Bouquet or wreath ๐Ÿ˜

09/10/2026

It's eviction time at Forgotten Flowers! ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŒธ

I'm Mandy, a dahlia farmer in Lincolnshire, and today we're digging up our dahlia tubers.

Three things to remember:

๐ŸŒธ Wait for the right conditions, generally after the first frost blackens the foliage.

๐ŸŒธ Dig well away from the crown.

๐ŸŒธ Lift gently. Your garden fork is not a weapon of mass destruction.

But we're not finished yet!

In Part 2, I'll show you what to do with those muddy tubers before winter storage. Get this bit wrong, and next summer could be a disappointment.

Follow Forgotten Flowers so you don't miss it!

Tell me in the comments: Are you lifting your dahlias for the first time this year, or are you an old hand at it? And who's ever accidentally stabbed a tuber with a fork? Confessions welcome! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Last night I had a lovely evening at Boston & District Flower Lovers Club, with the wonderfully talented Helen Chambers from Evolve Flowers Ltd Flowers Ltd. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ‚

The theme was autumn, but Helen took us on much more of a journey than that.

We started with those cosy autumn evenings by the fire, moved through the first frosts and the changing garden, and then, almost without noticing, found ourselves looking ahead to spring. ๐ŸŒฑ

There was plenty of inspiration, beautiful flowers and arrangements, and lots to think about as we head into the quieter months in the flower garden.

As a relatively new flower farmer, I love evenings like this. There is always something new to learn, a different way of looking at flowers, or an idea that sends you home thinking, I wonder if I could grow thatโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thank you to Helen for a really enjoyable and inspiring evening, and to everyone at Boston & District Flower Lovers Club District Flower Lovers Club for making it such a lovely night.

Now I just need to remember all those ideas when spring arrives! ๐ŸŒธ

๐ŸŽ„ DAY 1: Christmas decorating with dried flowers

I've decided that not everything that goes on your front door at Christmas has to be a wreath.

So I made a door bouquet instead.

Using dried flowers I've grown here at Forgotten Flowers, I wanted something that felt a little less traditional, could be made in all sorts of colour combinations and, importantly, didn't involve buying another Christmas decoration that will be shoved into a box in January.

There are dahlias, strawflowers, lavender and other dried bits from the flower farm in this one.

And I'm rather pleased with how it turned out. ๐ŸŒฟ

This is Day 1 of showing you what I've been making with the dried flowers I've grown this year.

Because apparently I've spent the summer growing Christmas decorations without realising it. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Would you choose a door bouquet or a traditional wreath?
