Bolton Woods Tigers U11s vs Eldwick – Match Report 🐯⚽️
A late kick-off today, but we had a full squad available and plenty to look forward to, including a debut for Phoenix, who slotted straight into the back line alongside Freddie and Xander.
We also had Yuvraj as captain for the day, following his outstanding performance in training this week — and he certainly didn't disappoint!
1st Quarter
We started really well and had Eldwick pinned back for large parts of the game.
Our front three of Andrew, R**t and Harry Parkin were causing plenty of problems, while Phoenix was stepping forward from the back to help us win the ball in central areas.
We were causing chaos going forward and eventually found ourselves two goals up, with Andrew and Harry both getting on the scoresheet.
2nd Quarter
With the firepower we had on the bench, we wanted to really put the game to bed.
Archie, Harrison, Louis and Alfie all came on, leaving Xander at the back with Freddie sitting just five yards in front of him.
The changes made no difference to our intensity. We continued to dominate, winning almost every loose ball and creating endless problems going forward.
Much like last week, Yuvraj barely had anything to do in the first two quarters — which shows just how well the team in front of him was defending and controlling the game.
3rd Quarter
We changed things around again, with Harry Parkin dropping in as the lone defender.
The game became a little more open as the opposition started to tire, but we continued to create chances.
Yuvraj's quick throws were particularly impressive today. His distribution was releasing the ball much quicker than we've been used to and getting us up the pitch at pace, giving us another dimension to our attacks.
We added another three goals during the quarter through Harrison, Andrew and Archie.
4th Quarter
Going into the final quarter, Eldwick had another player involved, so we decided to change our approach. Rather than chasing more goals, the message was simple — let's protect the lead and get the clean sheet.
The game became much more difficult, with Eldwick putting us under pressure through the middle.
But our back three of Xander, Harry Parkin and Freddie stood up brilliantly, getting us out of trouble on numerous occasions.
Eventually, a ball somehow stayed in play at the far end of the pitch before their player managed to get a shot away from an almost impossible angle. We genuinely thought there was no way he could score from there, but he somehow found the far post and beat Yuvraj.
Disappointing to concede, but fair play to the lad — it was a fantastic finish.
We still had chances to add to the score, with Louis and Archie both going close on the break.
Final Thoughts
Overall, a top performance from the whole team today.
This is exactly what we've been building towards in training — working hard for each other, recovering when we lose the ball, playing with confidence and, most importantly, enjoying our football.
It's our first win of the season, and you can really see this team getting stronger every week.
My Man of the Match: Phoenix 🔥
For his very first game for the Tigers, he was absolutely brilliant. Slotted into the back line like he'd been there all season, worked hard, stepped forward when needed and never looked out of place.
Opposition Man of the Match: Yuvraj 👏
Another excellent performance in goal and his distribution today was a massive positive.
