Four weeks.

One complete transformation.

Our team has been working through one of the hottest periods of the year to bring this Victorian apartment back to life.

Long before the first finish coat was applied, every room demanded meticulous preparation. Walls were stripped back, repaired and stabilised, damaged areas carefully filled, new timber mouldings installed to reinstate period character, plastering carried out throughout, and every surface painstakingly sanded… sanded… and sanded again, before being caulked and perfected.

Only then could the decorating begin, with spray-finished ceilings, mist coats, and the application of Farrow & Ball top coats.

The hours spent on preparation will never be the first thing people notice. But they are the reason the finished rooms look effortless.

At Bluebird Interiors, we believe exceptional decorating is built long before the paint goes on. It’s found in the unseen hours, the attention to detail, and the refusal to compromise, even when temperatures are soaring.

From water ingress to restoration.

For many years this property suffered from significant water ingress, causing extensive damage throughout the interior. Once the external defects had been addressed, it was time for the Bluebird team to tackle the inside.

What followed was weeks of preparation, repair and reinstatement before a single finishing coat could be applied. In reality, projects like this are often months in the planning, design and coordination stage before the restoration work begins. Also the amount of unseen work required before the decorating stage was considerable and was only possible through the combined efforts of skilled tradespeople working together to restore this property.

The scope of work included:

• Installation of a new bedroom ceiling
• Repairs to the bathroom and WC ceilings, including associated tiling works
• Removal of all damaged plaster
• Complete stripping of wallpaper throughout affected areas
• Fungal mould treatment, washing and degreasing
• Structural repairs where the staircase had separated from the main partition wall
• Extensive plastering, sanding and preparation works
• Electrical upgrades and remedial works
• New radiators and plumbing alterations
• Decoration throughout

Back for the finishing touches.

Inspired by that extraordinary star lantern, this room has become something rather magical.

By day, a bold and unapologetic Red Sun Room l; saturated, energising, full of confidence. By evening, as the light drops over Brighton, it softens into something altogether moodier… a glowing Hunter’s Moon room, rich with depth and drama.

The beauty of colour is never just the colour itself — it’s what light does to it.

This transformation has been a wild one (more on that in another post), but for now… let’s simply bathe in the glow.
