This sweater is a hybrid knit where I knitted the main body on my knitting machine using the fair isle punch card facility and the neckline, cuffs and hem are knitted by hand in the round using a circular needle 🧶🧶🧶

🪡 🪡 CORRECTING MISTAKES 🪡 🪡

I found after machine knitting the back piece of the Josefien Cardigan that there were a few stitches that didn’t knit correctly in the fair isle pattern.

I believe this was because I didn’t move the weights up enough when machine knitting a larger piece, which caused the stitches to ‘jump’ on certain areas and not knit the correct colour stitch.

Thankfully I was able to rectify this by sewing the duplicate stitch over the finished knitting so the fair isle pattern ended matching nicely 🤗

Here is the back view of the cardigan I recently knitted which was a hybrid knit of hand and machine knitting 🧶

I did the Josefien Cardigan masterclass by which is available to do online

Sophie gave a couple of options of hand knitting the yoke part straight (where you work back and forth knitting and purling) or you could knit the yoke in the round and steek it.

I have knitted fair isle in the round for several years and am very experienced at the steeking technique.

However, on this particular project, I didn’t want to knit the yoke in the round as I thought the steeks may be a little bit bulky on such a wide area of the yoke when adding the button band so I decided to knit the yoke on this cardigan straight.

I was originally taught (many years ago!) to knit fair isle using the straight method by my great Aunt Doll.

I was keen to see what I thought of this method since I mainly knit fair isle in the round nowadays…

I discovered that I actually don’t mind knitting fair isle straight and it was just as enjoyable to me as knitting fair isle in the round!
