Today is World Endangered Species Day!
π¨ -
It's a day to learn about the beauty and importance of the huge variety of species around the world, and to take action to support and protect those that are threatened by human caused extinction.
Take tigers. Due to poaching, the illegal wildlife trade, loss of habitat, and reduction of prey, there are under 4000 of these beautiful big cats left in the wild. That's fewer than the amount living in captivity in the US. Between 2000 and 2015, the parts of over 1500 tigers were seized from the illegal wildlife trade, and in just over a century, populations have shrunk by around 95%.
Or African elephants, around 47 of which are killed EACH DAY for their tusks, which has caused a 90% population decline over the last century. It's horrible to think about the justifications we give for sacrificing such magnificent wonders of our world.
You can help us support and restore populations of tigers, elephants, and more, through our Adopt for Prints plan. This subscription package lets you adopt an animal from through us, and receive monthly prints of your choice in return, as well as updates and goodies from your adoption.
The plan is available at various price points: the more it costs, the bigger the prints and the bigger the donation. Your subscription will help support WWF's work to protect endangered species and the habitats in which they reside. Check out our options here: https://www.twobirdsart.net/subscriptions
