I use traditional hand tools, such as a foot powered lathe, The wood is a by product from the from the woodland management work.

A few weeks ago, and thanks so much to and an amazing volunteer crew who smashed it despite the wind and rain, we planted 1800 trees along this new hedgerow.

Mostly Hazel and hawthorn with bits of oak, maple, Rowan, holly and we are also planning onadding damson at a later date.

What would you add?

2026 GREEN WOODWORKING WORKSHOPS NOW UP! 🪓🪚🪵🌳

We have now added our 2026 green woodworking courses to our website and craft courses. And we also have a new booking system on our website so you can book direct!

Finally back into some hedge laying, this was my first lone attempt at a competition at the Llantony competition this weekend, working in Monmouthshire style, I managed to get third prize in my category, but more importantly I learnt a lot from chatting to the other layers and looking at the other hedges.

Work has started on the llangatock Community Woodland group roundwood shelter.

I’ll be working with wonderful group over the next couple of months to build the shelter. Every few weeks I’ll teach them the next step and then leave them to finish that job in their volunteer days before resturning to do he next stage. So far they have done an excellent job sourcing and peeling the larch poles needed and beginning to cut the mortise and tenon joints for the uprights.

We’ve got wood!

Last month we got a delivery of Douglas Fir from a friend who manages a woodland in Herefordshire sawlogs which we have split with some other local landowners.

We will be getting in a mobile saw mill as and when needed and use the wood for some small projects on site and some external projects as well as future projects we don’t know about yet!

Once we have done our first milling day we will also have a little bit of specific dimensions to sell on at a reasonable price.
