This afternoon they stopped by to see the incredible Thread Count exhibition curated by

It’s so wonderful to see such a celebration of constructed textiles and fibre based pieces. This is exactly what we needed to see today! How the rest of us back in the studio wish this exhibition was coming to London (or even Bristol)!

The exhibition includes pieces by the following artists:

Anne Samat, Antonio Santín, Brent Wadden, Christina Forrer, Desire Moheb-Zandi, Forcefield, Hope Wang, Jacqueline Surdell, Jim Drain, Kenny Nguyen, LMRM x Abraham Cone, Malaika Temba, Meg Lipke, Mia Weiner, Molly Haynes, Matthew Logsdon, Natasha Das, Noel W Anderson, Rachel Mica Weiss, Rebecca Ward, Samantha Bittman, Sarah Zapata, Shinique Smith, Victoria Manganiello and Qualeasha Wood.

A quote from the show organisers:

‘Bringing together emerging and established artists working with textile today, the show foregrounds form, process, and tactile sensibility through the lasting influence of Anni Albers—her Bauhaus foundations, her writing, and her insistence that material and construction are the true engines of invention.’

YESSSS!!! Thank-you 💪🧶〰️

It was a huge honour to be invited to represent the Worshipful Company of Weavers at the annual today. What an incredible event!

We met so many wonderful people, and were blown away by everyone’s enthusiasm. It was a joy to demonstrate and teach the fundamentals of weaving to people passing by, including very special guests the Upper Bailiff Rebecca Ridley, and the Lord Mayor of London.

Thank-you so much to the and for a wonderful day! Thank-you also to for setting up the loom, for inviting us and Sophie and Oscar for helping on the stand, we made a great team 🐑🐑🐑

The end of an era.

Today we’re celebrating all that’s been achieved together, and looking ahead with love and support as Franki steps away from Dash and Miller and The Bristol Weaving Mill to focus on her family.

Franki and I founded Dash and Miller together in 2009, and later The Bristol Weaving Mill in 2013. What started out as two friends doing what they loved together, hand-weaving and travelling the world selling designs, has slowly and organically grown into something beyond our wildest dreams.

Never had we dared to hope that one day we would be surrounded by a team of amazing people who share the dream with us, or that we would be able to design and manufacture our ideas all under one roof. Above all, our proudest achievement is that we can make a difference in the world, be it through collaboration and responsible design, the R&D work we do, or the manufacturing decisions we make.

Knowing when it’s time to move on, to start something new and make changes in life is one of the hardest challenges any of us will ever face, and we are incredibly proud of Franki for making this decision. Yes we will miss her, but we are also excited for what’s to come and will be here to support her however we can in the next steps of her journey.

Franki’s achievements during her time at Dash and Miller and The Bristol Weaving Mill are immeasurable. She’s been integral to everything we do, from design to technical, strategy, accounts, legal, R&D, PR and Marketing, her skills are extensive and versatile.

From a personal perspective, I will miss not only the fun we’ve had together but Franki’s critical mind, and ability to challenge an idea and to see the bigger picture. She has been my counterpoint and best friend, our friendship will endure and I have no doubt we will work together again, but she will be missed beyond measure.

If you have read this far, thank-you for taking the time. Please join me in wishing Franki the very best for her future, it’s an exciting time and we can’t wait to see what comes next.

What a day out! Yesterday we took our annual summer day out of the studio, we like to learn and explore on days like this, but this was a day like no other!

First we went to see the amazing Sophie at Pigment Organic Dyes, who gave us a tour of her business, and an overview of all the different collaborative activities that happen at Baddaford Farm. Such a special place!

Then, onto Rushlade Farm to meet the wonderful and inspirational Jess, and the Dartmoor merino sheep whose fleece we’ve been using to spin yarn for our latest work with artist Garry Fabian Miller.

A quick stop for a very tasty lunch at Cafe on the Green in Widdecombe, before heading to Garry’s house to discuss and deliberate the latest naturally dyed yarns by Ria Burns, and woven samples we’ve been developing together as part of the Three Acres of Colour, and The New Ark.

It was a day of Dartmoor scenery, discovery and learning, reflection and discussion, thinking about the place of natural colour in the textile industry, both now and in the future.

Thanks to everyone who so generously accommodated us, gave their time and hospitality, and welcomed us into their space.
