Last week after our evening at Bristol Museum for the Women in Property South West and the Bristol Property Agents Association event, we popped across the road to find a bite to eat.

It's Bristol - the turnover of spaces, particularly in the hospitality sector, can be rapid which often leaves spaces looking tired, half done or quite obviously on the cheap. We found a very cute noodle spot housed in what used to be a Brizzle food institution Rocatillos - the American-style diner shut the original Clifton Triangle restaurant in February 2020 after more than 26 years in business. The new restaurant has kept the tiles and made a simple yet well thought out design choice to compliment them. (The noodles were great too!)

At Wylde, we’re proud to be an all-women team, championing creativity, collaboration and the power of women in business.

Our story began in 1996, when Tracey Wylde, our Director, founded Wylde driven by a need to work flexibly around her growing family. What started as a way to balance work and family life soon grew into something much bigger. As our workload increased and recommendations from happy clients continued to come in, it became clear that bringing on board like-minded designers was essential. And so, Wylde grew!

Today, we’re a tight-knit, award-winning team led by Tracey Wylde and Co-Director Amy Stone. We’re incredibly hard-working and professional, passionate about what we do and committed to delivering the very best for our clients. But we also believe that work should be enjoyable. We support one another, celebrate our successes and, most importantly, have fun along the way.

Tracey’s journey is a brilliant example of what women can achieve when they have the opportunity to build a business around their ambitions, values and lives. Her story also reflects something we believe strongly at Wylde: that success doesn’t have to follow a traditional path, and that building a thriving business and a fulfilling life can go hand in hand.

On Thursday last week we had a Wylde night out!

We attended the Night at the Museum Autumn Party - a joint networking event hosted by Women in Property and the Bristol Property Agents Association (BPAA) at Bristol Museum.

The event took place from 6-11pm which meant we spent time inside the museum after hours, enjoying an evening of drinks, nibbles, networking and even a scavenger hunt with private access to select exhibits! There were some incredible costumes - even dinosaurs attending!

We love any excuse to get together not only as a team but also with our industry and to support women across the property sector. Thanks for having us, it was great to be back together as the whole team and to see so many familiar faces!

Bird of the Week

Did you know October is the best month to spot Jays in the UK because these normally shy birds leave the dense woodland to forage and bury acorns for the winter. They're beautiful feathered friends with their reddish brown colour with bright blue flash complimented with white and black stripes!

Detailing really is where its at when it comes to successful interior architecture. Whether it's lighting or acoustic panelling, these are elements that can often be overlooked and are integral to how users experience the space on a day to day basis.

Whilst lighting comes under the M&E budget it stands apart as a critical element that can make or break your project. So it is essential to find the right balance of cost and aesthetics and to work with a consultant who understands how to use light for the best effect.

Acoustic treatment in the workplace has become more important as spaces have become more open plan and staff work more collaboratively, either in person or digitally over video or voice communication. Consequently noise levels have increased. We encourage clients to set aside some budget in the project cost to allow for these elements. They become an intrinsic part of the design and branding package on ceilings and walls.

Update from on-site in Avonmouth!

We shared some snaps from our project in Bicester last week and now have the update from the Avonmouth site - now fully accessorised with finishing touches to the design schemes, implemented by Alice and Lauren who are part of the APP team using the workplaces.

We're really pleased with the results on these projects. An example of how the Wylde team are experienced and adaptable problem solvers, space strategists and experts in interior architecture. We work collaboratively with project partners, surveyors, landlords, developers, architects and fit-out companies, to name a few.

This week in the Wylde blog we're talking "October Overhauls", after all it's what we do. An overhaul doesn't have to mean ripping everything out and starting again. In fact, some of the most effective transformations come from much smaller, more considered changes and reusing the stuff you already have!

Interior architecture is often about exactly that; understanding how a space works, where it falls short and what could make it work better. Sometimes moving a doorway can completely change the flow. A well-designed piece of joinery can add storage, create a visual focal point and subtly divide one area from another. A change of flooring can define a new zone, while a carefully considered lighting scheme can transform the atmosphere without changing the footprint at all. Repurposing, reupholstering and reusing existing items of furniture is the perfect way to keep costs low, create sustainable design options whilst also being creative.

So, if October has you looking around and thinking your interior needs a refresh, don't automatically reach for the demolition plan. Look closer - but first read our full blog here;

Bird of the Week

Early October in the UK is a special time of year for bird species, as summer migrants depart for Africa and the first hard-weather winter thrushes and wildfowl arrive from Scandinavia and Northern Europe. Amongst these birds are the Goldcrests - Europe's smallest birds, arriving in coastal areas via huge migrational waves . Thousands arrive daily following supportive autumn weather, resting and recovering in coastal sand dunes and low bushes - they're commonly found up north at sites like Spurn Point and Flamborough Head in East Yorkshire. Becaus eof their tiny size, past generations doubted these tiny birds could cross the sea alone, and told stories of them hitching a ride on woodcocks - earning them the nickname "woodcock pilots".

The bird in our brand and the birds we feature and share are symbolic of beauty, innovation, nature, and freedom – all qualities we apply to our work and lives. We love sharing ideas and allow clients to access the breadth of talent across our team.

Tracey has been on site at another nearly finished project of ours so we wanted to share some in-progress shots.

Here's a sneak preview of this workplace design scheme we've been working on in Bicester. The transformation is coming to life, especially as the furniture and artworks have gone in. This is a perfect example of a project that has a limited budget but with our expertise and ability to focus on all the right things to revamp this space to make it not only feel good but also maintain a brand / company identity. We did this with careful consideration on the acoustics and flooring and integrated the same detailing across sites.
