I love this time of year. The parched colour of grass, the arid heat, my bare feet on the ground, days spent swimming in water with friends and family. Cool drinks on hot days. And I also know deeply what a privilege it is to be able to love these things and to have these so freely available to me.
Around this same time last year I crafted a clay tree goddess (see previous posts), and this year there is much less greenery to decorate her with, only parched plants and grasses, in yellows and ochres. And so this year, this tree goddess is in honour of this awareness, and all those that are deeply affected by this heat and changing climate.
I honour the plants and trees that are having to adapt and delve deeper into the earth to find water.
I honour the farmers winter vegetables that are already suffering due to the heat.
I honour those that do not have the privilege to enjoy the heat of summer, who do not have the freedom to turn on their tap and receive fresh water to drink, and who are having to leave their homes and countries due to the scorching heat.
I honour the animals and non-human world for having to adapt to their changing environments.
I honour you and am grateful for my freedom to love this heat 🌱
