Here you’ll find an exceptional collection of historic sporting and military pieces alongside paintings that reflecting a love of the sea - all chosen for their craftsmanship, character, and quiet sense of adventure

Our entrance display this week is from Brian Norman

As you’d expect from Brian, there are all sorts of scientific instruments and curiosities, including a particularly handsome Victorian brass microscope. What we weren’t expecting was a Victorian perambulator

The microscope is by Smith & Beck, one of the foremost English microscope makers of the 19th century. The firm worked closely with the pioneering microscopist Joseph Lister and helped establish the microscope as an essential scientific tool during the Victorian period

Engraved Smith & Beck, 6 Coleman Street, London and bearing serial number 2208, records show it was purchased by H. Newton in 1859. It comes complete with its original fittings and accessories so displays beautifully too

Brian is front of house today, so if you have an interest in microscopes or scientific equipment it’s a good day to call in

A wonderful vintage pine food safe with pierced metal panels from here at Earsham Hall Antiques

Before refrigeration, pieces like this were used to keep butter, cheeses and cold meats cool while allowing air to circulate. Today, they make fantastic statement pieces in kitchens, pantries and larders and this one is large enough to work as a coffee table too

If you’re visiting tomorrow, don’t forget it’s our monthly Courtyard Foodie Market, open from 10am–1pm - the perfect excuse to browse antiques while stocking up on local goodies too

The Courtyard Foodie Market - we hope you’ll pop along for some antiquing and foodie fun

Stall holders will be selling an array of locally produced edible goodies, alongside fresh flowers and ceramics and a few surprises too

As usual will be serving breakfast, brunch and lunch, will be full to the brim, is full of spring gorgeousness and as for us there are two floors with antique and vintage pieces from twenty dealers to explore

We’re at Earsham Hall, just outside Bungay on the Norfolk / Suffolk border less than half an hour from Norwich and about the same to the coast
