🚐 VOLKSWAGEN TRANSPORTER T5.1 CAMPER – TAKING CAMPING TO NEW HEIGHTS! 🚐

What a lovely example of a 12-year-old Volkswagen Transporter camper!

Already a beautifully finished camper, but its owner had realised there was one key feature missing… a pop-top roof!

And what a difference it makes! 🙌

A pop-top is one of the best upgrades you can make to a campervan, offering:

✅ Full standing height – No more crouching when moving around inside.

✅ Extra sleeping space – Perfect for family adventures or additional guests.

✅ Improved ventilation – Letting fresh air flow through the camper on warmer days.

✅ More natural light – Creating a brighter, more spacious interior.

✅ Everyday practicality – All the benefits of extra headroom while retaining a low-profile roof when closed.

🔧 THE TRANSFORMATION

As with every installation, preparation is key. Before fitting the new roof, we carefully:

🔹 Removed the existing roof panels and interior spotlights.

🔹 Rerouted electrical cabling previously running across the roof.

🔹 Protected the existing camper interior with blankets throughout the installation.

* Colour-coded to match the camper’s existing paintwork.
* Black scenic canvas.
* Bi-fold roof bed and matching cover panel.

⭐ Bespoke Interior Finishing

* All pop-top framework professionally carpet-lined.
* Carpet supplied by the customer to ensure the perfect match with the existing interior.
* Bi-fold bed and cover panel carefully trimmed to complete the seamless finish.

⭐ Lighting & Electrical

* 4 new LED spotlights, rewired to operate from the customer’s existing switches.
* 2 dimmable LED reading lights, each incorporating a USB charging socket.

☀️ SOLAR POWER UPGRADE

We also installed a 230W semi-flexible solar panel, paired with a Victron SmartSolar MPPT controller.

This clever setup helps keep the leisure battery topped up when there’s sufficient sunlight, making it ideal for off-grid adventures.

And with built-in Bluetooth connectivity, the customer can monitor solar performance and charging information directly from their smartphone using the VictronConnect app! 📱

IT’S ALL IN THE DETAIL!

One of the most important parts of this conversion was ensuring the new roof looked and felt like it had always been part of the camper.

By matching the existing carpet, carefully integrating the lighting and paying attention to every finishing detail, we’ve given this fantastic T5.1 a whole new lease of life.

🚨 IMPORTANT DVLA UPDATE – GREAT NEWS FOR CAMPERVAN OWNERS! 🚐

Pop-top roofs are now officially recognised by the DVLA for motor caravan reclassification!

For several years, campervan owners and conversion companies have faced difficulties getting converted vans reclassified as a Motor Caravan on their V5C logbook.

Following the tougher approach introduced around 2019, many applications were rejected because vehicles with elevating pop-top roofs were not considered to have the external appearance of a traditional motorhome.

That has now changed! ✅

The DVLA has officially updated its guidance, recognising pop-top elevating roofs alongside fixed high-top roofs as an acceptable external feature when considering a change of body type to Motor Caravan.

To qualify, vehicles must still meet the DVLA’s requirements, including:

✅ A high-top or pop-top elevating roof

✅ The required side windows and separate access to the living accommodation

✅ Permanently fitted seating and table arrangements

✅ Sleeping accommodation

✅ Cooking facilities

✅ Suitable storage facilities

🚐 PREVIOUSLY HAD YOUR APPLICATION REJECTED?

There’s more good news!

The DVLA has confirmed that owners who have previously had applications refused can now reapply under the revised policy.

Each application will still be assessed individually, and approval is not automatic.

For owners of professionally converted campervans, particularly Volkswagen Transporters and Ford Transit Customs fitted with elevating roofs, this is a significant and positive development.

Great to welcome the boys from Saxon Fire back to Anglia Camper Conversions for another project!

Every van has a different purpose, and this T6.1 panel van was adapted to suit their specific working requirements.

This 2009 VW Transporter T5 LWB came into our workshop for a complete interior refresh, giving this much-loved van a fresh, modern look with a high-quality finish throughout. 👌

🏁 A SERIOUS AWNING SETUP FOR A SERIOUS MOTOCROSS CREW! 🏁
Another practical upgrade completed here at Anglia Camper Conversions.

This XLWB High Roof VW Crafter came to us with a specific requirement from the customer, who regularly travels to motocross events. Their existing cover system simply wasn’t working for them, so they were looking for a more practical, robust and versatile solution.

We supplied and fitted a Fiamma F45S 4500 awning, giving them a huge amount of sheltered space when they’re trackside.
To achieve the perfect fit and give the customer plenty of adjustment, we also fitted a Vamoose awning rail, with the Fiamma F45S mounted directly to the rail and also bolted to the vehicle.
We able to fit this leaving the rails from the old system in place as the customer wanted them left on.
