Symmetrical butterfly paintings! 🦋🦋🦋
A few days ago we had a go with a fun, colourful processart project, symmetry painting. My daughter simply added drops of different paint to half surface of a sheet of paper, folded it in half, pressed gently and then opened up the halves... what a beautiful surprise all those specular splashes of colours!
Needless to say, we immediately saw some butterflies in them. So we folded the paper in half again, traced half silhouette and then cut it... Et voila! Our multicoloured fluttering bugs are flying towards our main window for a lovely spring display.

Happy Learn About Butterflies Day!

Recycled 3D heart! ♻️💟
Waiting for Valentine’s Day, two versions of the same craft made upcycling a napkin box and a pear packaging tray.
About the first, the idea is to give one half to the person you love to complete the heart, the second was inspired by little bumps popping out by the curved surface of the pear carton.

Pumpkin carving fun! 🎃🎃🎃
In our house carving pumpkins is a truly fun, messy activity that involves all the family. We enjoy each and every step, from scooping out seeds and fibres to creating our own design, based on different skills and personal preferences.
Last year we created some “spook-tacular” Jack-o’-lanterns too early, which did not last until the 31st October… So, we “had” to carve a new set of pumpkins… Double fun!!!😄

And this year? We already have a few ideas… 💡

P.s.: lino-cut carving tools work wonderfully on pumpkin skin!
P.p.s.: mine, are only two! 😉

Cardboard haunted house! ♻️🏚👻🦇🕸🎃
Last week we - my 7 y-o daughter and me – worked together on our big, BOO-tiful project for Halloween: a cardboard haunted house for her Barbie dolls. When I proposed to her the idea, which combines two of her great passions in this period, she jumped for joy! Usually, I keep a major creative project for half term, but she couldn’t wait until then! 😄

She contributed with her own ideas and helped in each step.
It took three sessions of about two hours each:
1- planning and building the structure in cardboard, creating/gathering accessories
2- decorating the façade
3- decorating the interior
We used a large scrap of cardboard, little food boxes, a scrap of textured wallpaper, acrylic paint, acrylic paint markers, PVA glue, glue gun, recycled accessories and spiderwebs created by my little girl with a 3D pen.

We absolutely love how it turned out! Which side do you prefer?

Recycled and handy materials also for Halloween costumes for her Barbies: one black and one white plastic bag, black cardstock, plain toilet paper… simply attached with tape or a stapler!

Our summer holidays this year through art&craft activities at the beach with my children and nieces, with found objects and nature treasures.
Lots of fun making funny faces inspired by Holli Conger's collages, modular cacti with beach pebbles and bony fishes with sticks!
Posca markers, always in my bag, are so versatile!!

Monoprint Collage Art!
Looking at me while creating printed papers with a gel printing plate, my girl was so intrigued by the process that wished to try. So, I let her have a go. We find this technique so fun and satisfying, with that touch of unpredictability that makes each print a surprise!
We printed on packing paper and white parchment paper. Our designs are made using recyclables and found objects – bubble wrap, fruit mesh bags, cardboard tubes in different sizes, an old plastic card, a comb.
Messing around with mono printing is ideal for process art: it allows your child to experiment with combinations of colours, patterns, textures and layers.

Then, we cut out of them tringles, circles, rectangles and hearts, and used them to create colourful ice creams. They turn out so nice that I suggested my daughter to glue them on a sheet of paper, but she preferred to leave the cut-outs loose so she can create other yummy combinations of scoops, flakes and wafers. Enjoy!

Today we celebrate International Rock Day with an art project involving rocks: beach pebble decoration!
The imagination of my kids, their cousins and friends, and some acrylic paint markers in basic colours did the magic at the beach last year!

Last summer I packed some essential art and craft material for our holidays. Among those, a few posca pens that turned out incredibly versatile and useful to entertain the youngest. To repeat for sure! No problem with permanent colour stains on clothes: the kids used them in bathing suits! 😀

Which one is your favourite? Captain Scar, A village that… rocks!, Heart rocks or Pebble-Scrabble?

Joining in the celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee and World Environment Day on the 5th June with two upcycled crafts, a DIY “platinum” frame from cardboard and kitchen foil for a lovely portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by E. and a no-sew bunting repurposing three plastic bags - perfect outdoors whatever the weather!
Our little share for the environment is to use as much as possible recycled materials for our crafty creations.
