I had the pleasure this weekend of teaching a lovely group how to make a personalised sketchbook journal.

Everyone had pre-chosen their front cover design and each corner was monogrammed in matching foil.

They then had a choice of 6 colours of beautiful Studio Carta ribbon to add to their design.

Once the notebooks were made they then were given a selection of watercolours & different brushes along with a fold-out sheet of sketch options & botanical based prompts. But there was no pressure to stick with that, and some worked from their phone to create amazing watercolours sketches on paper to then go into the book.

It was a lovely relaxing morning around the table where everyone was able to switch off for a few hours and enjoy experimenting with watercolours. šŸŽØ

My original, and ever so slightly naive, vision of sitting with some calming background music whilst doing a little daily journaling has unfortunately not happened.

I honestly commend you if you can combine growing flowers with journalling, sketching and moving house šŸ˜‚

I can confidently conclude I am not that person. Iā€™m more of a ā€œhave a calming glass of wine to get over unboxing stuff in the heatā€ sort of person.

I shall endeavour to video the process of doing some sketches in different media, and fill you in on the best ink, nibs, and other things I use to fill in this chunky monkey of a book. āœļø

I taught a spring themed workshop last month at and the bit I love to do is the arty prep of customising the kit everyone gets.

For this workshop I wanted to do some elegant leaves on the gift bags and so I did some colour tests on paper, and was left with a handful of A4 sheets.

Cue my womble ways of not wanting to waste the paper, so I used my paper punch to create gift tags that I then added names to to finish the bags.

It meant everyone got a unique bag & tag to take away, plus they got to try doing some leaves with a dagger brush as well to make their own set of tags to take home.

Dagger brushes can be a bit tricky to use but you can achieve beautiful ombrĆ© colour effects with them once you get the hang of it, so if youā€™d like a demo comment ā€œtagā€ below and Iā€™ll show you how šŸŽØ
