Turtle Dove Cambridge was created to fill a gap in youth support work. With one very specific aim, Kate Nation founded Turtle Dove to improve the future of young women who are or are at risk of becoming unemployed through not having the confidence or experience to seek employment. This mission was driven by Kate’s first-hand experience in the youth sector where she saw the effects of a system wher

e there are twice as many young women not currently searching for jobs compared to their male peers. She also wanted to create a safe, female-only space that offers these young women an opportunity to flourish away from the pressure of their male contemporaries, around whom research shows they often don’t perform to the best of their abilities. Having grown organically over the past few years, Kate has ambitious plans to drive this project forward – reaching more young women than before, offering them the opportunity to strengthen their self-confidence and work towards building successful futures. By providing them with opportunities in hospitality, working as part of a team and with a defined structure, these young women can gain invaluable life experience. Our team of young women help assist in small-scale events, working on and off site to help ensure the event runs smoothly and seamlessly. We combine our service by working in partnership with various local caterers, restaurants, other social enterprises and community groups as well as supplying our very own vintage china hire.

Are you a creative marketing professional who wants your work to make a real difference?

Turtle Dove Cambridge is looking for a Marketing & Communications Co-ordinator to help us grow our impact, increase event bookings, tell powerful stories and support young women aged 14–24 to build brighter futures through education, employment and training.

✨ Part-time (12 hours initially, increasing to 15 hours)
📍 Based at Byron House, Cambridge, with attendance at events across the city
📅 Applications close 31 August (we may appoint early, so don't delay!)

We're thrilled to welcome two exceptional new volunteer Directors to the Turtle Dove Cambridge Board.

Meet Elizabeth Brauer, our new Director of HR.

With more than 15 years of experience in People and HR, Elizabeth has dedicated her career to creating inclusive workplaces where people can thrive. Her passion for building positive cultures, developing talent and empowering others makes her a wonderful addition to our Board.

Elizabeth is looking forward to helping create opportunities for the young women we support to grow in confidence, develop their skills and achieve their ambitions.

We're also delighted to welcome Rebecca Lewis as our new Director of Marketing & Communications.

Rebecca is an experienced marketing strategist who has led global marketing through periods of rapid growth before launching her own consultancy. She works with ambitious organisations to help them find their voice and tell their story through honest, meaningful communication. Rebecca is passionate about helping young women build confidence and independence and believes that when a young woman finds her voice, everything changes.

We are incredibly grateful that both Elizabeth and Rebecca have chosen to volunteer their time, expertise and passion to support Turtle Dove Cambridge. Their knowledge, experience and shared commitment to empowering young women will be invaluable as we continue to grow our impact.

Turtle Dove Cambridge will be running a pop-up café inside the Girton Pavilion, serving sweet and savoury treats, tea, coffee and refreshments throughout the day.

With indoor seating available, it's the perfect place to take a break and enjoy the festivities.

A huge thank you to Sol Creative Foundry for partnering with Turtle Dove Cambridge and welcoming us into such an inspiring space for their opening weekend.

Over the two-day pop-up café, we had the pleasure of serving coffee, cake, lunches and plenty of conversation while meeting so many wonderful people from the local community. It was fantastic to see such a creative, welcoming environment bringing people together through workshops, ideas, learning and connection.
A special mention has to go to our pizzas, which made their debut at the café and proved to be incredibly popular. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying them, and we can't wait to bring them back.

Partnerships like this create valuable opportunities for our young women to gain experience, build confidence and be part of something meaningful, while helping strengthen community connections across Cambridgeshire.

We're incredibly grateful to the Sol Creative Foundry team for their support, vision and collaboration, and we're excited about the possibilities for future projects together.

The good news is that we'll be back at Sol Creative Foundry on 27th and 28th June, serving up more coffee, homemade cakes, delicious food, fresh pizzas and friendly community vibes. We'd love to see you there.

For this months Turtle Dove Takeaway on 23rd June, we're serving a lentil bolognese and mixed salad.

Every meal is freshly prepared by the incredible young women we support. By purchasing a meal, you're helping us create opportunities for young women to build confidence, develop skills and gain valuable work experience.

We also provide meals for members of our community facing hardship through our partnerships with local organisations Whitworth Housing and the YMCA, so every order and donation helps make a difference.

We’re delighted to share that Cloud Nine Community Choir, Eclipse Vocal Group and friends are holding a special Summer Solstice Concert in support of Turtle Dove Cambridge on Saturday 21st June at 6pm.

This promises to be a wonderful evening of music, community and celebration, and we are incredibly grateful that all profits from the concert will be donated to Turtle Dove, helping us continue our work supporting and empowering young women aged 14–24 across Cambridge.

If you're looking for a lovely way to spend a summer evening, we'd love for you to come along. And if you can't make it, please consider sharing this event with your friends, family and local networks.
