It was a real pleasure to meet with Beccy Speight, CEO of the RSPB, and Dr Will Peach at the beautiful Goodnestone Park Gardens.

Together with my son, Andrew, we had the opportunity to discuss disease transmission points and the ways in which we address them, from simple demonstration pieces through to our complete operational feeding systems. We also explored water provision and safety for birds and insects, ground feeding, and our Matrix Solution developed in collaboration with Feather Friendly in Canada.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the gardens with Will and Tom and were inspired by their passion for practical, nature-based solutions.

Thank you to everyone involved for taking the time to learn more about our work and to Goodnestone for showcasing what we do. It was a wonderful day filled with meaningful conversations and a shared commitment to supporting wildlife. 🌿🐦

“Feed me!”

The young are watching the adults enjoying the Finches Friend Cleaner Feeder and seem to be wondering why nobody is delivering dinner directly to its beak…

The adults, however, appear to have other ideas: “You’re old enough now... work it out yourself!”

One of the joys of birdwatching is seeing young birds learn life’s essential skills, from finding food to gaining confidence at the feeder.

A glimpse of swifts at our founder Dick Woods’ home is a reminder of just how extraordinary these birds are.

Now Red Listed, swifts have declined largely because they’ve lost the nesting spaces they once found in our churches, factories, shops and homes. Modern buildings, sealed eaves, insect loss and other pressures have all taken their toll.

Yet swifts remain one of nature’s marvels. They eat, sleep and mate in the air, reaching speeds of almost 70mph and travelling around 9,000 miles between the UK and Central Africa before returning to the same nesting site year after year.

The Cleaner Swift Box was inspired by conversations with Carly Ahlen of GABO Wildlife and Edward Mayer of Swift Survival. Together, they highlighted key challenges facing swifts, including parasites, plastic-filled nests and competition from other species.

Our innovative two-part design allows nests to be cleaned between seasons, helping remove louse fly eggs and plastic debris while improving the chances of successful nesting.

Supporting swifts is about more than providing a nest box. It’s about helping one of Britain’s most remarkable birds continue an incredible journey that spans continents.

To combat wild bird disease, we need to rethink how we feed 🐦

Here are 8 simple but powerful steps:
• Keep birds away from stored food
• Always provide dry food
• Make cleaning quick and easy (5 minutes max)
• Catch food that falls from feeders
• Prevent birds from defecating in food and water
• Avoid porous surfaces like wood
• Separate ground feeders from hanging feeders and rotate feeding areas regularly
• Provide fresh water in a ring

Rethinking how we support our wild birds 🌿

The RSPB advises no seed feeding from May to October - and we broadly support that shift.

It is important to consider the wider impact. If feeding is reduced, we have some key concerns.

While we support more mindful feeding, it’s not as simple as stopping altogether. The environment birds rely on has changed - and continues to change.

There’s a safer way forward. Thoughtful feeding. Better products. Supporting birds without unintended harm.
