If this is your first time looking at farm diversification and you’re thinking about putting glamping cabins on agricultural land, the cabin itself is only one part of the conversation.

Planning, access, utilities and how the land is going to be used all need to be considered before you get too far into the project.

We’ve broken down some of the things worth knowing in our latest blog for farmers and landowners in Kent.

A lot of the important stuff in a Soul Space cabin ends up hidden away.

Here you can see 90mm thick Celotex insulation being fitted into one of our roof panels.

Once the galvanised tin is on, you won't see any of it, but that insulation is helping the cabin retain heat and stay comfortable whatever the weather is doing outside.

It’s the things you don’t always notice that can make the biggest difference.

Here’s something you might not know about a Soul Space cabin.

Because of the way they’re built, our modular timber cabins can be dismantled and reassembled.

That means if circumstances change, there may be the option to reposition a cabin elsewhere on your land rather than the investment always being tied to exactly where it was first installed.

For landowners thinking long-term about accommodation and diversification, that flexibility can be useful.

There’s much more to our Evolve concept than simply making a cabin bigger.

Read more about it on our website.

A little look at the birch plywood we use for the internal cladding in our cabins.

We really like the clean, natural finish it gives the inside, while still keeping that warm timber feel.

It’s one of those details that makes a big difference once the whole cabin starts coming together.

Just a quick note from us ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend.

Soul Space will be closed on Monday 31st August and we look forward to giving the team an extra day away from the workshop.

We’ll be back as normal on Tuesday and ready to pick up conversations about cabins, accommodation projects and everything else we’ve got going on.

We hope you have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend too.

If you’re looking at creating accommodation on your land, you don’t necessarily need to know what the finished business will look like from day one.

You might start with one cabin, see how it works and decide later that you’d like to add to it.

That thinking is a big part of our Evolve concept. Our timber cabins are modular, giving landowners the option to start at a manageable scale and adapt as the business develops.

We’ve explained a bit more about how Evolve works on our website. Have a look.

One cabin or five?

It’s a question that’s come up a few times in conversations about farm and land diversification.

There isn’t a number we can give you without knowing what you’re trying to achieve.

You might have room for five cabins, but that doesn’t automatically mean five is the right answer. Starting with one or two may make far more sense and give you an opportunity to see how the business performs before going any further.

Our cabins are modular, so that ability to start with what you need and develop things later has always been an important part of how we build them.

If you’ve got land in Kent or East Sussex and an idea you’ve been sitting on, come and have a conversation with us.

If you came to us tomorrow and said you had some land and wanted to put three cabins on it, we probably wouldn’t start by talking about the cabins.

We’d want to know a bit more about the land first.

❓ Where is it?
❓ What’s the access like?
❓ Why would somebody want to stay there?
❓ What services are nearby?

And, importantly, what are you actually hoping to create?

Once you know those things, you can start making sensible decisions about the accommodation.

We build timber cabins but there’s quite a lot that needs to happen before the timber arrives.

If you’ve got land in Kent or East Sussex and an idea you’ve been sitting on, come and have a conversation with us.

We’re halfway through the summer holidays and it’s interesting to see just how popular rural breaks have become.

For anyone with land who has thought about offering accommodation, it’s worth remembering that you don’t necessarily need acres of development. People will travel for a good location and somewhere comfortable to stay.

That could be one or two timber cabins in a part of your land that currently has very little use.

There’s obviously quite a bit to consider before you get to that stage, but if you’ve been away somewhere this summer and found yourself thinking “we could do this”, perhaps it’s worth looking into.

If you’ve got land in Kent or East Sussex and an idea you’ve been sitting on, come and have a conversation with us.

We’re getting more enquiries about off-grid glamping in Kent, particularly from landowners with parts of their land that aren't close to existing services.

And that raises a good question: what does off-grid actually involve?

It’s not simply a case of putting a cabin in a field.

Power, water, waste, access and how the accommodation will operate all need thinking about before you get to that point.

The cabin is one part of the project.

If you’re considering off-grid glamping cabins in Kent, we’re happy to talk through the accommodation side and where a Soul Space cabin could fit into your plans.
