When people start looking at accommodation on their land, they often focus on planning, utilities and the guest experience.

All important things to think about.

But at some point, you'll need somewhere for people to stay.

That's where we come in.

At Soul Space, we build timber cabins that can form part of a wider accommodation project. Whether you're exploring glamping, off-grid stays or a small diversification project, we can help provide the cabins that sit at the heart of it.

We won't tell you how to run the business but we're always happy to share what we've learnt from speaking to landowners and seeing these projects take shape.

If you've got land and you're starting to explore the possibilities, we'd love to hear about it.

We're really excited to announce that we'll be heading back to the Kent County Show this year.

We had such a good time at the show last year that it was an easy decision to return.

If you're visiting the show on the 3rd, 4th or 5th July, come and find us. You'll be able to step inside one of our cabins, have a look around and chat to the team about your ideas.

Whether you're looking for a timber cabin for your garden or exploring opportunities on a larger piece of land, we'd love to meet you.

We'll share more details on where to find us a little closer to the show.

One of the biggest misconceptions around accommodation projects is that everything has to be built immediately.

In reality, a lot of successful sites start with one cabin and grow naturally over time.

That’s the thinking behind our modular approach at Soul Space.

Start with what you need now. Expand later if the demand is there.

You can read more on the website.

More farmers and landowners in the UK are starting to look at diversification differently by creating simple, well-built accommodation space that people genuinely want to stay in.

That shift is one of the reasons modular timber cabins are becoming more common across rural parts of Kent and the wider UK.

A turnkey business sounds complicated, but the idea is actually quite simple.

Create something that’s ready to work from day one.

That’s one of the reasons timber cabins are becoming such a popular option for landowners looking at tourism and accommodation.

You can start small, build properly, and grow over time rather than trying to develop everything at once.

We’ve written more about it on the website.

The development of our new construction method is coming along exceptionally well.

Our normal cabin range features 90mm celotex insulation that keeps your timber garden room warm in the winter and cool in the summer. However, since we don’t need that here, we have been able to cut down the overall weight of the structure, even when fully assembled.

Because of this, we are looking to develop a full outdoor bathroom, complete with shower or bath, toilet, and a handwashing basin. We would also be looking to put these structures on wheels, allowing them to be easily moved. At the moment, a forklift is more than capable of moving the structure around with ease.

A structure like this would be ideal for any newly started and already established glamping site, especially those started under a Natural England Exemption Certificate scheme. Due to the way the exemption certificates work, you often have to prove your site can be removed in 24-48 hours and leave no permanent changes to the site.

Here are some closeups of the new features for the outdoor shower unit we are developing.

For the window, we wanted something that would maximise the amount of light coming in, but were not so big that you’d lose your privacy. To solve this, we made a direct glazed window with a small frame. Thus maximised the amount of glass we could use, and thus the amount of sunlight able to come through, while also staying on the smaller side to retain some privacy when using it. We chose to set the window back in a similar fashion to the doors.

Additionally for the window, we chose to make some shutter for the outside. In the same way we made the doors, we reused the wide board reclaimed spruce that was removed in order to fit the window. Again we chose to use galvanised metal fittings here, keeping the style consistent.

Here are some closeups of the new features for the outdoor shower unit we are developing.

We opted to reuse the wide board reclaimed spruce we use to clad the exterior of the shower as the doors. We chose to set them back so they were not flush with the walls, which we think adds a significant amount of natural charm to the structure. Galvanised metal hinges and latches were chosen to match the galvanised tin roof we use.

A lot of people assume setting up accommodation on land means large developments and huge disruption.

In reality, some of the most successful sites start much smaller than that.

One well placed timber garden cabin, in the right setting, can completely change how a piece of land is used.

That’s why more landowners across Kent and East Sussex are starting to look at cabins as part of a wider diversification plan.
