What was my life like back when I worked in finance…?
Well, it was very full. My job was 9-5 Monday to Friday.
But because of the type of role I had, my emails needed constant monitoring. Even when on holiday. The type of finance I did was time sensitive, target driven and responsiveness was one of the most important traits for success.
So what’s different now…? I still respond to emails and DM’s on holiday. I still set high targets for myself. I’m still so responsive that most of my reviews mention it.
The difference is the flowers. Getting to work in a creative world and be a part of the BEST DAY of people’s lives. The difference is freedom, to be with my dogs all day every day and not rush home of a lunchtime to get them on a quick walk and then wonder why they were batsh*t crazy hyperactive when I was just dying to watch Bake-off in peace.
The difference is having dinner at 6pm, not half 8 by the time we’d both got home and cooked from scratch. Between washing and life admin and staying hydrated and catching up with family and cleaning the house and having hobbies and being a well-rounded human being and squashing anything else into the weekend and then getting the Sunday Scaries when it came to a close…
I think you get the picture. But the biggest difference is, I get to do all of this for me, not someone else. That freedom is unparalleled. And I actually feel like I’m really good at making it look like I work really hard - but floristry comes pretty effortlessly to me.
And when you combine all the perks and glimmers, is it any wonder I haven’t once missed my old job?! 😄
