I appear to have designed quite a few bathrooms recently...to be fair, there are 4 in my current project, which has been amazing to work on, with a great project team.

Some were completed last year and another earlier this year.

That's the fun about interior design; you never know what's going to come through the door and what projects you'll get to work on next.

Well, my next one is a garden design!
I've also just designed a garden room, so I'll share that soon.

When I get a chance, I have two more podcasts to edit and upload, so they are coming soon!

Why I Design. Why I Teach.

I've often been asked whether I love designing or teaching more.

The truth is, I can't separate the two.

At the heart of both is the same belief.

I believe people thrive in thoughtfully designed environments.

Whether I'm creating a home where a family can truly relax, designing a workplace that inspires collaboration and wellbeing, or mentoring someone taking their first steps into interior design, my purpose is always the same.

To create an environment where people can flourish.

When I design, I'm completely in my element.

I love understanding how people live, work and interact with a space. Every decision I make is about more than how a room looks. It's about how it feels, how it functions and how it improves the lives of the people who use it every single day.

That same passion shapes the way I teach.

I don't want my students to simply complete assignments or pass assessments.

I want them to grow in confidence.

To discover abilities they didn't realise they had.

To leave believing they belong in this profession.

Some of the comments that mean the most to me aren't about design at all.
They're from students who tell me:

"You've given me back my confidence."

"I didn't feel stupid for not knowing enough."

"I couldn't wait to get home and carry on learning."

Those words remind me why I do what I do.

Knowledge can be taught.

Software can be learned.

Design principles can be practised.

But confidence, curiosity and the courage to keep growing come from learning in an environment where you feel supported, challenged and inspired.
That's the environment I strive to create every day.

Whether you're a client trusting me with your home or workplace, or a student trusting me with your future, my promise is the same.

I'll give you my experience.

I'll give you my honesty.

I'll challenge you to think differently.

And I'll believe in your potential until you believe in it yourself.

Because great design isn't just about creating beautiful spaces.

It's about helping people thrive.

And that's what inspires me every single day.

When I look back at July, as I'm just catching my breath today, it's been a busy one...

4 bathrooms
5 bedrooms
1 kitchen
1 boardroom
2 reception rooms
a reception area
a home office
a garden office
online content for my online course
video editing for 2 more podcast episodes
grabbing a mini break to San Sebastian and Bilbao (and getting loads of design & architectural inspiration)

so this is why it's been a bit quiet on here...although it's been fab and busy IRL.

Grateful for the fab projects I've been involved in over the last couple of months, and can't wait to design the next projects and more lessons for my students to gain real-life knowledge and experience.

Get in touch to realise your next home or office revamp.

On to my first garden revamp project. More on that once the design is complete.

Also in the background, my first blended-learning, online-and-in-person Interior Design Diploma is ready to take students soon.

Going LIVE in my online interior design course tomorrow at 1pm GMT, I will be going through the new Design Drop TM and how it will help my online students become even better designers. My design drops will challenge you and are real examples of design projects.

My Design Drops TM

- challenge your design thinking
- allow you to work on real project examples
- give you a realistic timeframe and budget
- expand on your design skills and learning
- give a video lesson on how to tackle each Design Drop TM with useful pointers and insights from a professional designer
- will be assessed and useful feedback given

This is a vital part of any interior design learning, as each project will test both your design and presentation skills.

The feedback you get will be vital to becoming more confident at designing spaces for yourself or others.

The bi-monthly Q&A sessions answer all your burning questions about design problems, pricing issues, sketchup how to's and even business and coaching to give you as much confidence as possible for when you are producing your designs for real.

# The Design Drop™ – Real Projects. Real Feedback. Real Experience.

One of the biggest challenges after completing an interior design course is knowing how to apply what you've learned to real client projects.

That's exactly why we created The Design Drop™, exclusively for course members.

Embedded within the course, you'll receive interior design projects based on a realistic client brief. Each project is designed to replicate the types of work you'll encounter as a professional interior designer, helping you build confidence through practical experience.

Each Design Drop includes:

* A realistic client brief
* Floor plans and measurements
* Project objectives and design requirements
* Design constraints and considerations
* A project to complete using the skills you've learned throughout the course

Once you've completed your design, you'll have the opportunity to submit your work for professional feedback, helping you refine your ideas, improve your presentation skills and develop the confidence expected of a practising designer.

To support every stage of your learning, your course membership also includes twice-monthly LIVE coaching and Q&A sessions (with recordings available if you can't attend), giving you regular opportunities to ask questions, receive guidance, and continue developing your skills.

This isn't just another online course - it includes practical experience designed to help bridge the gap between learning and working as a confident interior designer.

With over 35 years of experience, I know what employers and clients need and look for. The market is buoyant. I'm seeing more job adverts for busy studios requiring designers, new and experienced. They don't want AI slop. If they wanted that, they would do it themselves, and we all know by now the limits of AI. It just doesn't have the nuance required in a design project. Who wants what everyone else has?

My course gives you step-by-step training, REAL design feedback, portfolio opportunity, REAL feedback.

Start any time.

All links in Bio.

The most important interior design skills aren't the ones people see.

When people think about interior design, they picture beautiful fabrics, colour palettes and perfectly styled rooms. They don't see how you get from a before picture to an after one.

But after more than 35 years in the industry, I can tell you that those aren't the skills that separate good designers from exceptional ones.

It's the skills behind the scenes.

✔️ Understanding how people live and work.
✔️ Solving problems before they become expensive mistakes.
✔️ Creating layouts that genuinely improve daily life and help people thrive.
✔️ Communicating confidently with clients, contractors and suppliers.
✔️ Knowing the technical details that make a design buildable—not just beautiful.

These are the skills that build confidence.

They're also the skills that create successful careers.

If you're learning interior design, spend just as much time developing your thinking as your styling.

Beautiful interiors start with great decisions and clear communication.

You can't expect clients to hand you a great project if you don't have great skills. These are buildable. The more you learn, the better the projects.

Which of these skills do you think is the most underrated?
