The next Before and After...
Knocking through from the existing kitchen into a new lounge/dining room extension transformed this lovely house and created a beautiful social space, where whoever was cooking could still engage with the rest of the family. The final touch, turning a tiny utility into a pretty laundry/pantry with a glazed door.

I'm loving these Before and After posts, it's just so satisfying to see how you can transform a space with some building tweaks. In this case, opening up the old kitchen into the lounge area behind which created a huge family kitchen dining room. Taking out the old kitchen window and back door into the garden and fitting a wall of glass doors flooded the room with light and brought the outside in.

Another Before and After case study...
In this case, what was once a formal living room has been turned into a family kitchen, dining, living room with a much more contemporary feel. Wooden panelled walls, though beautifully finished, made the room feel much darker and didn't work as well for a family with children. In the After photos, the space is now light and airy, Mum can cook whilst the family watch TV or play/work at the dining room table. Two new doorways have been created to turn what was the original kitchen behind into a luxury utility/laundry area along with a new, luxurious walk in pantry.

Everybody loves a Before and After don't they?
This kitchen transformation is one I frequently use to show customers how using colour in the right place can make such a difference in how light a room feels.
Our customers loved muted sage green but by using it on the lower cabinets instead of on the walls, and painting the walls and upper cabinets a pale shade, the room is instantly brightened without sacrificing colour.
The other important thing to remember is that using dark colours on horizontal surfaces darkens the space, switch the dark slate floor to a lovely pale travertine tile, swap a wooden worktop for a light coloured granite and what was once a gloomy room is transformed into a fabulously light space.
Obviously a beautiful, handmade kitchen helps!

Just had delivery of the new Cosentino Eclos worktops, a mineral worktop without any silica, as hard and as durable as quartz but with the added bonus of being able to withstand hot pans up to 200degrees! Just chosen Landr for our showroom display (the sample on the left) as it has a lovely warm cream background with striking gold veining to pick up the aged brass handles on the doors.
