Last week, we were pleased to welcome Jacob to Cubby Joinery to complete his work experience.

Jacob spent the week learning how the workshop runs and seeing the wide range of joinery projects being undertaken.

Speaking about his experience, Jacob said: “I have had a great time, I have been shown how to use all of the machinery and learned how much detail goes into the work. I hope I get to come back one day.”

Cubby Joinery Manager Lynne said: “Seeing his enthusiasm on the workshop floor has been a highlight for the whole team.”

We would like to thank Jacob for all of his hard work. He displayed a good attitude and willingness to learn, and we wish him all the best for what's next.

This Health & Safety at Work Day we are celebrating our fantastic SHEQ team, processes and technology we implement at Cubby Joinery to raise health and safety standards, productivity and quality.

Working with machinery, sharp tools, and hazardous wood dust requires robust control measures to maintain safety. We use SafetyCulture as a mobile platform where colleagues can record, log and track close calls, incidents and any potentially unsafe situations that need addressed safe in the knowledge it goes into a system where it will be followed up and acted upon.

Used across multiple sites and teams, the SafetyCulture platform has created a single source for improving visibility and compliance to drive consistent safety standards.

Jordan is responsible for applying high-quality finishes to joinery products, ensuring a flawless, durable result every time.

His role involves surface preparation, colour matching, and the controlled application of paints and coatings to achieve a consistent finish across all projects.

The position requires a keen eye for detail, strong technical understanding of materials and finishes, and the ability to maintain precision in a fast-paced production environment.

Occasionally, he’ll also be found wearing a GoPro on his helmet capturing the process first-hand and giving a behind-the-scenes look at the craftsmanship that goes into every piece!

This door is being spray finished to achieve a consistent, high-quality surface that cannot be replicated by hand application.

The process begins with surface preparation including sanding to refine the grain followed by cleaning to remove dust and finally sealed to ensure an even base.

Spray application allows for precise control of coating thickness and ensuring full coverage across all profiles, edges and detailed sections.

The finishing process is what elevates a well-crafted piece into a premium product.

Meet the Team – CNC

After seeing what the machine can do, meet the team making it happen.

Pascal is our CNC Supervisor, overseeing the daily operations of the machine and ensuring it is running safely and efficiently. Pascal manages the workflow and quality control whilst working alongside Peter to resolve any troubleshooting issues.

Peter, our Joinery Project Engineer, manages the technical side of projects with a focus on CAD/CAM development and translating complex design requirements into manufacturable components.

Our 5-axis CNC machine delivers the precision needed to machine complex shapes, while a custom jig lets us machine the inside curve, top, and bottom in a single setup.
