There is something quite special about seeing food grown by the community, cooked by the community and shared with the community.

Next week at Cegin Hedyn we’re serving:

🥕 Tuesday 2nd June
Roasted Vegetable Masoor Dal with Allotment Broad Beans

🍄 Wednesday 3rd June
Creamy Chard & Mushroom Potato Gratin

🍊 Dessert
Orange & Turmeric Traybake

Our doors are open from 10am to 2pm at the Lammas Street Centre, with lunch served from 12pm.

Meanwhile, on Monday, our volunteers will be down at the allotment growing food for future meals, improving the space and enjoying lunch together. New volunteers are always welcome.

As many of you know, community projects like ours rely on a mixture of grants, donations and volunteer support to survive. Funding is becoming harder to secure, which means local support is more important than ever.

If you’d like to help keep Cegin Hedyn thriving, you can:

💚 Make a monthly donation through Localgiving
💚 Volunteer at the allotment or canteen
💚 Share our posts and tell others about what we do
💚 Donate surplus produce, seeds, tools or materials
💚 Introduce us to businesses, sponsors or grant opportunities
💚 Simply come in for lunch and be part of the community

Regular monthly donations are especially valuable because they give us the flexibility to spend money where it is needed most, whether that’s ingredients, seeds, utilities, equipment repairs or responding to unexpected challenges.

Thank you to everyone who helps make this project possible. Whether you donate, volunteer, share our posts, grow food, wash dishes, eat lunch with us or simply cheer us on from afar, you are part of what makes Cegin Hedyn what it is.

Huge thank you to everyone who came along to The People’s Emergency Briefing last night. Nearly 200 people through the doors and our little Cegin Hedyn team somehow managed to keep everyone fed and watered… mainly with freshly picked herbal tea and savoury flapjacks. 😂

We picked herbs straight from one of our volunteer’s gardens just before the event and honestly, the smell coming from the kitchen was unbelievable. There was something quite funny about gently funnelling people towards tea with no caffeine and flapjacks with no sugar in them… and then watching loads of people come back saying how delicious they were.

Of course, we still served “boring tea” (formerly known as normal tea) and coffee for those not quite ready to fully surrender to the hedgewitch café experience.

In a world packed full of hidden sugars, ultra-processed snacks and stimulants that wreck our sleep, it actually felt quite fitting to offer something slower, calmer and made from real ingredients. Also, carrying enough herbs, flapjacks and catering kit for 200 people on my bicycle definitely added to the drama and seemed to amuse quite a few people. 🚲

The film itself carried some incredibly powerful messages about the climate crisis and what communities can do in response. I left feeling very proud to live in Carmarthen amongst so many passionate people taking action and showing up.

And for those asking… yes, the savoury flapjack recipe will be heading out to all Cegin Hedyn subscribers soon.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

There’s something powerful happening when communities reconnect with soil, food, and each other. 🌱

At Cegin Hedyn, we truly believe healthy soil grows healthy food, and healthy food helps create healthier people. That’s why so much of what we do starts down on the allotment, building compost, feeding the land, and creating a closed-loop system that turns waste into nourishment for our community.

After seeing the recent footage shared by the Carmarthen Coracle & Netsmen Association showing pollution in our waterways, it feels more important than ever that we protect the land and rivers that feed us.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported us during Carmarthen’s Mayor’s Race last Monday. Serving coffee, cake, and good vibes to runners and supporters brought us a lot of joy and helped raise vital funds for the project.

And this week’s menu is looking VERY good…

🌿 Tuesday
Methi Dal with roasted seasonal vegetables

🌿 Wednesday
Soufiko, a rich Mediterranean summer stew with fresh bread from Sam

🍊 Dessert
Sticky vegan orange traybake

All served on a pay what you can basis because good food should be accessible to everyone.
