🌾🔥 CEGIN HEDYN IS HEADING TO THE FARM THIS SATURDAY! 🔥🌾

This Saturday 5th September, we’re swapping the Cegin Hedyn kitchen for open fires and farm fields as we head to Glasbren at Lords Park Farm, Llansteffan, for their annual Harvest Celebration!

And we’ve got a job to do…

🔥 At 5pm, Deri and the Cegin Hedyn crew will be cooking Food from the Flames for everyone!

The whole day starts from 12pm, with farm tours, fermentation and seed-saving workshops, children’s activities, a Harvest Ceremony and plenty more.

Then we’ll light the fires, feed everyone and hand things over to a Twmpath from 7pm, followed by music and dancing into the evening. 💃🌱

After such a challenging, dry growing season, it feels particularly important to come together and celebrate the people, land and hard work behind the food we eat.

And we’d LOVE to see some familiar Cegin Hedyn faces there. ❤️

📅 Saturday 5th September
📍 Glasbren, Lords Park Farm, Llansteffan
🌱 From 12pm until late
🔥 Cegin Hedyn Food from the Flames from 5pm

Tickets are available directly from Glasbren 🌾

It’s an exciting week ahead!

We had a brilliant and highly productive day on the allotment yesterday. Things are really coming together out there, and it’s great to see so much being grown, cared for and harvested by the team.

Back in the kitchen, Sam and the team have another incredible menu coming up this week, packed with local, seasonal produce. Come and join us for lunch on Tuesday & Wednesday if you can.

And this weekend there’s something new happening in the Tywi Valley…

FALLOW is a new food and farming gathering bringing together local growers, producers, makers, cooks and communities.

There’ll be producers’ markets, conversations about growing and farming, workshops, activities and plenty of good food, finishing with a feast.

Even better, much of FALLOW is pay what you can afford, making it a genuinely accessible opportunity to come together and celebrate our local food system.

I will be there too, proudly championing the work we’re all part of here at Cegin Hedyn and talking about the importance of food and community.

It would be lovely to see some familiar Cegin Hedyn faces there.

Have a great week, everyone.

Deri :)

We were so pleased to welcome Sam back from her holiday in Scotland, and she’s straight back into the kitchen creating another delicious menu for everyone.

A huge thank you to the Bwyd Sir Gâr Food project for donating an amazing selection of tomatoes and courgettes. Donations like these help us reduce food waste while serving fresh, seasonal meals in our pay-what-you-can community canteen.

On Thursday evening we had the privilege of catering for the annual gathering of Achub Y Tywi, a brilliant local group working to protect and restore the River Tywi. If you care about our local environment, we’d really encourage you to check them out and see how you can get involved.

Did you know we also cater for private events and community groups? These bespoke bookings help generate extra income to support Cegin Hedyn, so if you’re planning a meeting, celebration or gathering, we’d love to hear from you.

Today our volunteers had another productive day on the allotment. We planted chilli plants, parsnips and more chard, harvested runner beans, French beans, courgettes, cucumbers, potatoes, salad leaves and raspberries, composted last week’s food waste, and spent plenty of time watering everything in this warm weather. It’s so rewarding seeing more and more of our own produce making its way from the allotment straight onto your plate.

🥣 This week’s menu
Tuesday: Fali Dal made with our freshly harvested French beans.
Wednesday: Courgette, Beetroot & Potato Ratatouille featuring our own homegrown potatoes.

🍰 And by popular demand… our famous chocolate cake is back!

We’d love to see you this week. Come along for a delicious meal, support your local community canteen, and pay what you can.

As always, if you can give this post a like, comment or share, you’ll be helping more people discover Cegin Hedyn.

See you soon! 💚

What a privilege to welcome Achub Y Tywi to Cegin Hedyn this evening and cook for such a passionate group of people.

The work they’re doing to protect and restore the River Tywi has never felt more important. Like many of you, we’ve been horrified by the recent drone footage showing the condition of parts of the river. It’s heartbreaking to see one of Wales’ most iconic rivers in such a state, but it’s also a reminder that positive change starts with people who are prepared to get involved.

If those videos have left you feeling angry, upset or wondering what you can do, Achub y Tywi is a great place to start. They’re bringing local people together to monitor, protect and stand up for our river.

Please give them a follow on Facebook and get in touch if you’d like to help. Every volunteer and every voice makes a difference.

Thank you, Achub y Tywi, for everything you do. It was an honour to feed you all this evening.

Big love from Deri and the whole Cegin Hedyn team. 💚

Credit to Ben James for the drone footage!

🌿 We’re officially Green Flag Award winners! 🌿

We’re absolutely delighted to share that Cegin Hedyn’s community allotment has been awarded a Green Flag Award – an internationally recognised mark of quality for parks and green spaces that are welcoming, well-managed and benefit the local community.

This award belongs to every volunteer who has dug, weeded, watered, harvested, built, composted and cared for our growing space over the last few years. Thank you. You’ve created something truly special.

Last week I had the pleasure of covering Sam while she was on holiday, so I was back in the kitchen working alongside our amazing volunteer team. It was a busy week with packed café services and preparing food for Local Motion’s CAWL event, but it’s great to have Sam back in the kitchen this week, serving up another delicious menu.

If you’ve not visited us for a while, this is the perfect week to pop in for lunch, enjoy some home-cooked food, and see what your local community can achieve together.

Congratulations again to everyone involved – we’re incredibly proud. 💚

If you’re as pleased as we are, please give this post a 👍, leave us a comment to congratulate our volunteers, and share it to help celebrate this fantastic achievement with the wider community.
