I STARTED MY BUSINESS WITH £1,000… 🧡
Yep. Just £1,000.
No big investment.
No huge savings pot.
No fancy premises.
Just an idea, a love for making things, and a massive amount of hope that people would actually buy them! 😂
There's something else I don't talk about much…
I'm neurodivergent, and I have dyscalculia.
Dyscalculia is often described as being a bit like dyslexia, but with numbers. Numbers, calculations, working things out and keeping on top of figures can be genuinely difficult for me.
And yet… I decided to start a business. 😂
I started small, making my products myself, learning as I went and putting pretty much everything I made straight back into the business.
Fast forward to now… and Copperwood Candle Co has grown into so much more than I ever imagined. 🥹
We have 80+ wax melt scents, candles, diffusers, room sprays, body products, gifts, home fragrance and plenty more, all made and sold from my little shop in Carrickfergus.
It hasn't been easy. There have been days I've wondered whether I could keep going, days when sales have been painfully quiet and days when I've questioned the whole thing.
And having dyscalculia certainly hasn't made the numbers side of running a business easy! I'm winging it and make mistakes..
But then I look around and think…
I BUILT THIS. 🧡
From £1,000.
With a brain that works a little differently.
From an idea.
From my own two hands.
And I'm still here, still making, still learning and still giving it everything I've got.
So if you're sitting there thinking "I'd love to start my own business but I don't have thousands to throw at it"…
Remember, you don't necessarily need thousands.
Sometimes you just need to start with what you've got.
And don't let the things you struggle with convince you that you can't do the things you dream about. 🧡✨
