A Georgian elm dough bin
The rectangular dough bin is of boarded tapered form with a removable lid to void interior. Stands on chamfered legs united by a serpentine frieze. All of good colour and patination.
English, circa 1780-1830

A sycamore pole-lathe turned dairy bowl with incised turning marks to base. Spoon made from a single piece of sycamore. Bowls such as this were turned using freshly sawn sycamore, rather than seasoned and hardened wood, chosen as it was said not to taint the food and to have antibacterial qualities.
English or Welsh, circa 1800-1830

The tray with out-swept canted sides and central division raised and pierced to form a carrying handle. The timber of well patinated mahogany and crisp cut dovetails to the corners.

An Anglo Indian Hoshiarpur table
The removable brass tray with a rope twist edge, geometric embossed border around a scalloped center. Stands on an octagonal folding hardwood base with latticework sides with carved lotus flower center, the 8 sides in 4 alternating patterns. The base is hinged and folds flat.
Indian, circa 1900

These portable folding tables were designed to take tea, or refreshment. Trays of this form from India take the name Benares, a British colloquial name for the city of Varanasi in India, which was famed for metalware and the making of beautiful decorated trays.

A George II fruitwood single chair
The use of fruitwood in this single chair sets it apart from comparable chairs in the more usual mahogany or walnut. The dished shaped and moulded top rail above a well figured solid splat back of constrained design to shaped foot, the back with bellied edge, the drop in seat is upholstered, stands on square front legs with a moulded edge and swept back legs, united by stretchers.
English, circa 1740
