Too many years ago to remember, we started our journey in the curtain making and fabric trade.

Texture and feel are everything, they can make a room feel cosy and bring it to life. Because we know exactly how materials should be put together, our client’s can trust that their curtains, blinds, and room accessories are always of the very best quality.

We also love to partner with local craftspeople to create those one-of-a-kind pieces you can’t find anywhere else: Custom headboards, recovered antique chairs, and unique upholstered furniture.

H​ow to keep ​y​our home cosy without setting fire to £20 notes or killing the planet?

Insulation is key. If you’re doing major renovations, making sure your doors, windows, walls, and roof are as insulated as possible is a good place to start.

When collaborating on a project, we ensure all suppliers are scrutinised regarding their heat transfer values and efficiency.

You’ll be delighted to hear that spending on soft furnishings can also save on your heating bills. 10–25% of your heat escapes through your windows. Layer your windows with luscious fabrics of wool, or heavy textured linens—anything with a tight weave that won’t let the air through. These can be left open in the warmer months to open up the feel of your room. We specify that they are interlined, or used in combination with a blind for maximum effect. A lighter blind can maintain privacy during the day and let in valuable sunlight, with heavier curtains keeping in extra warmth after dark.

It is also time to welcome back the door curtain. A heavy curtain, particularly in front of an old door with glazed panels or a draughty letterbox, will make a huge difference in mitigating cold draughts. It’s worth having curtains made to measure. This will ensure there is plenty of weight when they are drawn and space on either side of the wall, so no warm air can escape.

If you’re new here (or just needed a reminder!), we’re Jane (left) and Helen, two friends who founded JH Designs Interiors back in 2007 after years of collaborating on projects in the Cotswolds.

We’re still best friends and still absolutely love our job: transforming houses into beautiful homes for our lovely clients!

A few fun facts:

Jane: A lawyer turned interior designer who loves to hike, climb and ski mountains.

Helen: A former eventing competitor who now prefers the lower-budget thrill of riding her bike and playing padel!

The brief for our Cotswold Hideaway project was to blend authentic heritage with modern comfort, keeping original features and reintroducing those that had been lost. We handled the full interior design, right down to the last teaspoon, delivering a fully equipped letting cottage for six people.

During the strip out, our builder found original Victorian bead & butt boarding in the living room, we decided to keep the original paint colour to give it character. We revealed the old fireplace, installed a cosy new wood burning stove, and modernised the flow by removing a dividing wall.

In the kitchen, the design revolves around a reconditioned electric AGA our clients loved. We integrated appliances into Shaker style units, used clever space planning, and added new French doors and a window above the sink to flood the space with light.

Although nearly everything was replaced including the windows and doors we tried to select styles that were sympathetic to the age of the cottage.

Tonight we’re sharing the stunning transformation of this pretty riverside home.

Our clients had fallen in love with the Cotswolds and location of the house. We were tasked with bringing the house back to life, stripping it right back to the shell to maximise every inch of the house.

The goal? A luxurious, family-friendly home perfect for entertaining. Working closely with our clients (who had fantastic ideas about materials and colour palettes!) and a brilliant local builder, we created a space that’s both beautiful and functional.

We think the collaboration was a huge success and hope you love it too!

Step 1. Video call to make sure we’re the perfect fit for each other (because great design starts with great relationships!). We will request photos of your space in advance of our video call to help us understand how we can best help you transform your home into the Cotswolds.

Step 2. Onsite consultation, to include:

🔍 A quick tour to get the full picture

💬 A detailed chat about your goals and vision

💡 Helpful suggestions (we might say “have you considered X instead of Y?”)

📏 Taking precise measurements for plans

Step 3: We follow up with a report and fee proposal for onward work.
