This weekend I picked up this lampshade for the first time in nearly two months.

The last six months have been difficult since my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma, and the last few weeks especially have felt very heavy. Somewhere in between home visits. hospital visits, a million phone calls and trying to keep going, I realised I needed a release… something just for me, even if only for a little while.

So this weekend I got back on my Peloton bike for the first time in months and did a 30 minute spin class, and I came back to this piece.

It’s made using vintage Japanese kimono silk, with 42 hand-strung strands of crystal and glass beads sewn on one by one — a job I honestly reached a point of hating for a while. But sitting quietly and working with my hands again felt comforting in a way I didn’t expect.

After months of sitting untouched with only seven strands attached, it finally feels like this lampshade is coming back to life. Just the final beading and braid left to do now ✨

The first photo shows one of a pair of large frames I’ll be making as part of a commission, think big, blue with a splash of black.

A new lamp in the studio ✨

This beautiful antique jadeite glass base has just arrived — and my Misaki shade seems perfectly at home on top.

The third photo shows the real behind-the-scenes work to build my own jadeite floor lamp: 18 months of collecting parts while I hunt for the perfect components.

Sometimes design comes together slowly… piece by piece… until suddenly it just works.

What’s the finishing touch that makes a room feel complete for you? A lamp, a cushion, a piece of art, something else?

I have a collection of jadeite lamp parts so that I can build one or two lamps to add too my personal collection of uranium glass lamps.

Swipe to see the uranium lamps glow.

Can anyone in the UK recommend me to any people or places where I can buy antique lamp spare parts? Thanks.🙏

The photos include a couple of my bases and a few of my lamps, two of which are waiting patiently for me to make them lampshades.

Steve’s a great coach, his calm and supportive style is really encouraging and we learnt so much over two days. I can’t wait to put what I learnt into practice at my Wednesday evening pottery group, particularly pulling handles which is not as easy as I’d like!

Many pots were thrown, swipe through the photos to see my refined mugs that will beheading to the kiln.

On a cold, damp winter’s day, there’s nothing more uplifting than receiving photos from a very happy customer 🤍

The Jade & Pearl Dragons were a true labour of love — a 12-month collaborative creative journey that grew far beyond the original idea.

What began as a brief for a pair of simple pagoda lampshades evolved beautifully, thanks to my client’s exquisite eye for antiques and my own love of a challenge.

Seeing these beauties now at home in a French château, perched high above a pair of antique Chinese Foo Dogs, is an absolute treat 🐉✨

✨ Work in progress… ✨

While I’m waiting for a delivery of custom frames to arrive before starting a large commission (which will keep me busy for months), I’m making the most of the pause by working with this beautiful vintage kimono fabric — which I believe is silk. 👘

This lampshade will feature six kimono panels, paired with six narrow panels of silk and chiffon, all hand-dyed to match the pinky-red florals. Those narrow panels will be delicately pleated to add movement and depth.

👉 Swipe through to see a closer look at the details — including the custom-designed bead fringe I’m making to sit alongside the dip-dyed fringe. It’s one of my favourite parts of the process. ✨

I’d love to know… do you enjoy seeing the making as much as the finished piece?

✨ A little thank you, from me to you ✨

I’ve been saving this crescent shade for the right moment… and with just 11 days to go before Christmas 🎄, it feels like now is exactly that time.

I won’t be listing this shade publicly. Instead, I’m offering it at a very special thank-you price for my followers — for the constant support, encouragement, kind messages and genuine love you show for my work. It truly means more to me than you know. 🙏💛

If you’ve always dreamed of owning a handmade lampshade but felt the price made it just out of reach, please message me directly. I’d love to see if we can make this work in time for Christmas 🎅🏻🎁

This little shade may be small, but it took a disproportionate amount of time to make — tiny scales are wonderfully fiddly, and I rather foolishly decided to pleat the silk across the top… which took hours 🤦🏼‍♀️ But the result feels worth every minute.

It’s made using silk, silk velvet and silk spotted tulle from Pongees, finished with glass beads, black braid, and antique gold braid framing the crescent details 🌙

✨ Please note: the shade will remain available to others until a deposit or full payment has been received.

Thank you, always, for supporting handmade and for supporting me. 💫
