📆 Date for the Diary 📆

Guild member Nigel Williams has been offered an exhibition at Prema Arts Centre in Uley (near Dursley) from Wednesday 16 September until Saturday 24th October.

The exhibition will include some of Nigel's usual copper and brass sculptures previously seen at Guild exhibitions at Rodmarton, but the main feature will be a new tranche of quite different work created mostly this year which Nigel has entitled 'Organic Inorganic'.

After decades of photographing "developed surfaces" (i.e. artifacts that started life with boring plain surfaces, but over the years "developed"
into something much more interesting), the next logical step seemed to be to mount their images in "frames" which exhibited similar surface characteristics.

Nigel has been making work along these lines for about 15 years, but is particular pleased with this latest batch, because the images have all been printed directly onto aluminium dibond, which (apart from being diabolically expensive!) really makes these extraordinarily-detailed and heavily-manipulated photographs jump straight off the wall.

The results are quite startling, imparting a very successful illusion of depth and intrigue to images that are often very abstract and inscrutable. The "sympathetic" 3-dimensional frame structures are constructed from oxidised and re-oxidised steel, with added features and details, including following the details in the images in some cases.

We’re still hosting the beautiful work of Emily Dennys in our shop in Cheltenham.

Emily creates handmade porcelain lamps, vases and wall panels inspired by a lifelong fascination with the natural world.

Her work captures the delicate beauty of grasses, seed heads, leaves and flowers. Emily uses relief casting to preserve their intricate forms.

Drawn to porcelain for its translucent qualities, Emily explores the interplay of light and material. When illuminated, her pieces transform, revealing layered silhouettes reminiscent of lithophanes, where light brings the surface to life. This shift between unlit and lit states creates a quiet sense of warmth and atmosphere.
