We’re closed this Bank Holiday Monday ☀️

After another busy summer, we’re giving the Etienne team a well-earned Bank Holiday break.

We’ll be closed Monday 31 August and back as normal from Tuesday 1 September.

Want privacy without covering the whole window?

This is one of the reasons we like top-down/bottom-up blinds.

Instead of the blind simply being either open or closed, you can position the fabric where you actually need it — particularly useful when you want privacy at eye level while still allowing daylight into the room.

Luxaflex® DuoMotion™ adds motorisation into the mix.

On suitable Duette® and pleated blinds, the upper bar is electrically controlled, while the lower bar can still be positioned manually.

That gives you much more flexibility over:

☀️ Has the afternoon sun suddenly started reaching much further into the room?

It's one of those seasonal changes that catches people out.

As the sun gets lower towards the end of summer, we often start noticing glare rather than just heat.

That can mean:

📺 struggling to see the television
💻 reflections across computer screens
🛋️ strong sunlight falling directly onto furniture or flooring
🏡 rooms feeling uncomfortable at certain times of day

But controlling glare doesn't necessarily mean covering the whole window and losing all the daylight.

The right blind can help you manage where the light falls, improve privacy and make the room more comfortable without making it feel permanently dark.

At Etienne, we look at the direction of the window, the type of glazing and how the room is used before recommending a solution.

What happens behind the scenes after you choose your blinds?

There’s a lot more to made-to-measure than simply taking a width and a drop.

At Etienne, we’ve been supplying window furnishings since 1991, and our roller and vertical blinds are made in our Chesterfield factory.

That means we’re involved in the whole process — from checking measurements and choosing the right fabric, through to preparing the blind and completing the installation.

Every stage matters if the finished blind is going to look right, fit properly and work as it should.

So whether you’re in Chesterfield, the Peak District or the surrounding area, your new blinds aren’t simply being picked from a shelf.

Another scorching day – and if one particular room is becoming unbearably hot again, summer 2026 may be telling you something. ☀️

The Met Office says this summer is now on course to become the UK’s warmest on record. And in the longer term, hotter summers and more frequent heatwaves are expected.

For many homes, the issue is large areas of glazing receiving strong direct sunshine.

Internal blinds have an important role in controlling glare, daylight and privacy – and correctly chosen blinds can also help reduce unwanted solar gain.

External shading takes a different approach by intercepting strong sunshine before it reaches the glass.

The Government’s current hot-weather guidance specifically identifies external shutters, roller blinds and awnings as very effective measures.

At Etienne, we don’t believe there’s one answer for every window.

The right solution depends on the room, direction of the window, glazing and how you actually use the space.

Who says shutters have to be white?

A rich wood finish can make shutters feel almost like a piece of fitted furniture — adding warmth to the room while still giving you all the practical benefits shutters are known for.
