It's scarf season again! One of the consolations of this time of year is we can revert to our norm, wrapping up warm πŸ‚. Lots of new scarves are in: lightweight (nearly all Β£6 or under) and runaway autumn customer favourites, the supersoft green/orange blue knit ones which are Β£10. I know! That's the great value we love to bring you β™₯️β™₯️

The Dry Border
I've been asked what's in it, that has given us and the bees and butterflies etc flowers all Summer long and no watering once plants are established.

For height: cephalaria gigantea and verbena bonariensis, echinops

Around the edges: sedums/stonecrop, wall germander, Calamintha Nepeta, thyme, hyssop.

Mid height plants: salvias (all are good, I have Nachtvlinder and Caradonna), lavender, geranium, scabiosas, agapanthus, Caryopteris Kew Blue, Rosa Kent, agastache, purple loosestrife, gaura, Perovskia (russian sage, looking fabulous now)

Longest-flowering star of the show, I'd have to say Rosa Kent. All I did was mulch in Spring, deadhead in June but even though no deadheading since then, it is still producing clusters of buds. I will deadhead now and see how long it continues. The drifts of white flowers offset the blues and purples for a cool colour scheme and insects love them πŸπŸ¦‹

Let's keep feeding those bees 🐝 please

01/08/2026

Bees 🐝... our gardens need to keep providing plenty of flowers for them in August: lavender, coreopsis, caryopteris and scabious are all good, and extremely drought-tolerant once they're established.

31/07/2026

They're buzzy all over our new perennials: coreopsis, scabious, lavender, gaura ... Perovskia and Caryopteris in bud too, nectar bars opening soon πŸ™‚πŸπŸŒΌ

Don't leave your bees to die in the August pollen and nectar gap, buy them some flowers πŸ™‚ 🐝 🌼
