We are a two best friend team, Hippo (myself) and Bird (my working colleague and a best friend). The idea of Hippo and Bird originated from a visit to The Malthouse (Antique and Interior centre) in Tewkesbury, UK. Initially we only went there to have a cup of tea during our lunch break and to se
e what they sell. There we saw this ornament, Hippo with a Bird on its head, jokingly I said, if this ornament is still there on our next visit, I’ll buy it as a birthday gift for you. Coincidently (well one of our colleagues said, it was meant to be, but hey…) upon our next visit, it was still there. So, I bought it for her. Few days later, we were just talking during our lunch break and all of a sudden we had this idea, why not sell items that we make/upcycle just like in The Malthouse? I said instead of filling your garage with 1000s of upcycled items, why don’t we find new homes for them? You see, Bird is blessed (God given) with arts and crafts and upcycling skills. She can virtually upcycle anything and everything even sometimes I see an item and think it’s had it’s life but she gives a whole new life to the piece. She has this beautiful skill. Bird says, Hippo on the other hand is extremely creative and talented. He has been in business for more than 20 years and have the expertise to drive the business forward, without his passion belief and support Hippo & Bird wouldn’t have been possible. That was the time/day (April 2019) when we initiated our very first shop on Etsy (HippoandBird1807). We created our Instagram (HippoandBird1807), Twitter (HippoandBird) and page (Hippoandbird1807). We even came up with funny but very thoughtful song for it too,

We also have our own branded mug and a tote bag; you can see the mug on our Instagram and page. In a nutshell, the idea is to sell creative arts and crafts but also vintage upcycled items that we make/work on. We are very new to all of this selling but we have beautiful ambitions and a vision to bring beautiful dreams and spread happiness across the globe. Now I’ll let you guess what 1807 is in our brandname, there is a story behind it too 🙂
