We love this!

Solareye80 Bat Hat ground lights set into the tops of sections of a tree trunk, creating simple, natural wayfinders to help visitors to a glamping site find their way to the huts in the dark.

There’s a lovely story behind the logs too. After squirrels stripped the bark further up the tree, it sadly had to be felled. The customer has now given the timber a new purpose by turning it into these clever light housings.

A brilliant example of thoughtful design, reuse and making the most of what’s already there.

Thanks so much to our customer for sharing the idea with us.

From survey to install.

A look at a recent Solareye80 Bat Hat installation, from the initial site survey back in the summer through to the finished project last week.

Around 500 ground lights were installed at 5m intervals along pathways in and around green spaces and residential areas.
Watch this space for some night time images coming soon.

We’re really pleased to be joining Ecology Expo 2027 as a Seed Partner.

It’s a great opportunity to connect with ecology professionals and to talk about how low-impact solar lighting can help create safe, usable routes while minimising the negative impact of artificial lighting on bats and other nocturnal animals.

We’ll be at NAEC Stoneleigh on 17-18 March 2027 and we hope to see some familiar faces there!

We're delighted to welcome Solareye as a Seed Partner of Ecology Expo 2027.

Creating safe and inviting routes after dark need not mean relying on conventional street lighting in ecologically sensitive locations.

Solareye develops solar-powered lighting for active travel routes, designed to minimise the impact of artificial light at night on bats and other nocturnal wildlife.

Its low-impact solutions are recognised by the Bat Conservation Trust and CIEEM as suitable bat mitigation methods, offering project teams an alternative where dark corridors and protected species require careful consideration.

Delegates will have the opportunity to meet the Solareye team, explore the technology and discuss how ecologically sensitive lighting could support their projects.

If you’re considering solar lighting and would like us to carry out a survey - or even borrow our ground light sample set to see what the finished result could look like - get in touch.

As a side note, the olive oil cake we picked up to fuel a park survey earlier this week was next level.

A quick pit-stop at the services to pick up elevenses for the lunchtime learning session we’re delivering.

Today’s topic is how solar lighting can support active travel while protecting natural environments. If you would like something similar (the talk, plus the doughnuts 😉), get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss your requirements.

Does more light really make us safer?

It’s an assumption people often make but the relationship between lighting and safety isn’t quite that simple.

We came across an article by DarkSky Texas which looks at the evidence behind the idea that more light means less crime and greater safety. It’s a topic we explored in our own article a while ago too.

The answer isn’t about having more light, but about using light effectively - reducing glare, improving visibility and illuminating only where it’s needed.

Worth a read if you’re involved in planning or specifying outdoor lighting:
