Is your outdoor sink ready for winter? 🥶💧

We know plenty of you are still out there cooking, coat on and tongs in hand, and we salute you. 🔥 But if you’ve taken the party indoors for the winter, this one’s for you.

Before the first frost arrives, a quick job now can save a costly repair in spring. To winterise an outdoor kitchen sink:

1️⃣ Turn off the water supply
2️⃣ Drain the pipes and basin fully
3️⃣ Disconnect any hose connections
4️⃣ Lag any exposed pipework

Planning an outdoor kitchen? A sink belongs on the spec list from day one. It keeps the cooking flowing, so you’re not trailing back indoors every time you need to rinse or wash up. Our honest recommendation for most UK kitchens is grade 304 stainless steel, and an ice bucket alongside it keeps drinks and ingredients chilled right at the cooking station.

Where does the price of an outdoor kitchen really come from? 💭🔥

We recently quoted a customer for a fully bespoke outdoor kitchen, and it came in well over budget. So we talked through the options, and with a few small changes he ended up with a kitchen that looks remarkably similar for around half the price. (He still got the Bull grill he wanted 😉)🔥

The change wasn’t in quality. It was in choice. Here’s what drives the cost up:

🔧 Bespoke sizes: a one-off design needs an engineer’s drawing, which then has to be machined.
🪨 Custom worktops: a Dekton top for an unusual shape has to be cut precisely to fit.
🎨 Special colours: a new colour means clearing down the spray booth and setting up a fresh powdercoating run.

Modular ranges in standard sizes, with a more limited choice of colours and worktops, are still beautifully made. You’re simply choosing from a set range, not specifying every detail.

Fully bespoke is wonderful when you need it, and we love doing it. But if your budget matters, it’s well worth a conversation first. We’ll talk you through both routes and help you find the best fit.

The Fire and Food Fair is at Hogs Back Brewery in Tongham on Saturday and Sunday, with live fire demos, street food, fire pits and plenty of local makers. It’s a great local event, and we’ll be cheering it on, though we won’t be there ourselves.

A quiet corner of one of our favourite projects, looking suitably atmospheric this time of year. The arch could have history etched into every brick — the kind of structure that makes you wonder what spooky things it's seen. We just couldn't resist the "midnight" filter!
