🐾🤍 HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY 🤍🐾

Today is to celebrate my favourites. 🐶

The muddy paws.
The ridiculous zoomies.
The little faces waiting at the window.
The cuddles when we’re sad.
The unwavering loyalty.
The way they somehow know when we need them most. 🥹

Dogs don’t just become part of our lives, they become part of who we are. And honestly, I don’t know what we ever did to deserve them. 🐶✨

So today I want to celebrate YOUR dog. ❤️

👇 Tell me your dog’s name in the comments!

Bonus points for a photo because, obviously, I need to see those beautiful faces! 😂🐾

Let’s fill the comments with as many wonderful dog names as we possibly can. 🌈

Happy National Dog Day to every dog, every dog lover, and every person whose heart has ever been completely stolen by four paws. 🤍

Tag someone whose dog deserves a little extra love today. 🐾✨

Learning a whole new kind of magic ✨📚

I’ve been quietly diving headfirst into something that feels a little bit scary… and VERY exciting.

I’m teaching myself how to become a children’s book illustrator. 🥹🌿

Not just how to draw cute woodland creatures (although there will absolutely be plenty of those 🦊🐿️🐇) but how to tell stories through pictures.

How to create characters children fall in love with.

How to make a page feel magical.

How to use colour, composition, expression and tiny details to make someone feel something before they’ve even read the words.

So, naturally, I’ve started building myself a little library… 📚

These are some of the books currently living on my desk, and I’m slowly working my way through them, filling sketchbooks, making notes, experimenting, getting things wrong and trying again.

And honestly?

I LOVE being a beginner again.

There’s something really beautiful about admitting ‘I don’t know how to do this yet’ and then deciding to learn anyway. 🤍

Especially after a few years where life has felt incredibly heavy, I’m trying to give myself permission to follow the things that make me feel excited about the future again.

And this does.

✨ Stories
✨ Animals
✨ Nature
✨ Watercolour
✨ Whimsy
✨ Healing
✨ Creating little worlds that might make someone feel less alone

That’s the direction I’m dreaming about.

So I need your help…

If you’re a children’s book lover, illustrator, author, artist or just someone who has a favourite book that made your childhood magical, what am I missing?

📚 What books would you recommend for someone teaching themselves children’s book illustration?

I’d LOVE to build the ultimate little self-taught illustrator bookshelf so please throw your recommendations at me in the comments! 👇

And if you’re also learning something completely new right now, tell me what it is.

Maybe we can be beginners together. 🌱💛

A little hello from me! 💕

Thank you for being here.

To everyone who has stuck around while I stepped away from Instagram thank you for your patience, kindness and understanding. It has meant more than you probably realise. 🤍

And to anyone who has found me recently… welcome! I’m so happy you’re here.

I’m coming back with a slightly different dream.

I’m still painting pet portraits, creating original art and, perhaps most excitingly, teaching myself how to illustrate children’s books. 🐇🌿✨

I’ll be sharing the messy sketches, the happy accidents, the things that don’t work, the things that do, and everything I learn along the way.

This little corner is going to be about art, animals, creativity, healing, starting again and finding the light in ordinary days.

So whether you’ve been here for years or you’ve just arrived…

welcome to the next chapter. 🤍

I’m so glad you’re here.

And if you’re starting a new chapter of your own, tell me about it below. 🌱

When Lexi died, I heard some truly surprising things.

Most of them weren’t said with bad intentions. In fact, many came from people trying their best to comfort me.

But pet loss can be a strange kind of grief. Society often understands the heartbreak of losing a person, yet many of us feel pressure to “move on” quickly when we lose a dog.

The truth is that our dogs are woven into the fabric of our daily lives.

They greet us every morning. ✨
They walk beside us through difficult seasons.🐾
They celebrate ordinary moments. ☀️
They become family. 💕

So when they’re gone, the silence can be deafening.

This post isn’t about calling anyone out.

It’s simply a gentle reminder that when someone loses a beloved pet, we don’t need the perfect words.

We don’t need to fix their grief.

We just need to acknowledge it.

“I’m so sorry.”

“Tell me about them.”

“They were lucky to be loved by you.”

Those simple words can mean the world.

If you’ve lost a dog and are carrying that grief today, this is your reminder that your heartbreak is valid, your love mattered, and your dog was never “just a dog.”

❤️ For Lexi.
