Small spaces can still pack a punch and don’t be afraid to use colour in these tight spaces.
For this downstairs cloakroom we actually pinched space from here to create a small cupboard in the small hallway as storage was much needed.
I also have a confession - I’m really not a fan of white toilets! I think reviewing other colours shouldn’t be seen as brave but more as part of making sure a scheme is cohesive, with darker colour schemes white can stand out too much. So I went pink!

So many details packed into this small space, the exposed copper pipes, vintage cabinet, terrazzo and framed jigsaw, but it still works, it has personality, it was a fun space to create and always made me smile - and that’s what your interiors should do.

Meet the Designer

For those who aren’t overly familiar as you may have only just found my page, I’m Natasha the face behind NB Interiors.

I have recently relocated to Kent from Suffolk and am slowly settling into the new surroundings. I have taken on a huge project of my own with our new family home so when I chat about renovations for clients I really can relate to everything that comes with that journey!
After 9 years in business I can safely say I still love helping clients inject colour into their homes and I’ll be adding a lot of colour to my own home.

In my spare time I love yoga and Pilates. I have recently tried cold plunging and I am definitely feeling inspired by coastal living. Something about being this close to the beach/sea for me I find calming but also inspiring. I hope you enjoy following along as I share more about my personal renovation project, settling into Kent coast life and the updates on my lovely clients’ projects along the way.

I’m busy playing around with some colour and pattern combinations for our own home at the moment.

Nothing is set in stone yet, I’m just seeing how different colours, patterns and materials work together.

One thing I’ve learnt over the years is not to rush these decisions. I like to put samples together, adding this and that, swapping out colours or fabrics and then leave them for a while and come back to them to see if I still feel the same way.

When you’re investing in your home, I think it’s important to give yourself time to make sure you’re happy with your choices rather than rushing to get everything decided. Especially for kitchens where we invest more of the budget.

For now I’m enjoying this scheme and how it’s coming together, but I'll live with it a little longer before making any final decisions.

Designing your kitchen comes with so many decisions it can feel very intimidating. It’s every detail from the flow, the appliances, the worktops, where to source the kitchen from, the colours and layout. Kitchens like this take time to design and get right.

For my client on this project, we knocked through a wall to open up the kitchen and connect it with the adjoining living space. Not only did this make the kitchen feel much brighter, but it also created a more relaxed, sociable space where they could entertain friends.

The layout was designed so the taller units sat along the side wall so when entering the kitchen you aren’t met with blocks of kitchen cabinets, instead a breakfast bar with open shelving with personal items and cookbooks.

The colour brightened this north facing room and contrasted against the blue that we carried right through into the dining and living room.

This layout worked for my client and they found the flow completely suited how they cooked and spent time in their kitchen.

Colour drenching a space is a bold move and for this room I think worked so well with the lower ceilings.
Our links to colour is very psychological and for me a dark cocooning feel made this a room I could get a good nights sleep. The blue was rich just bold enough and with its red undertone never felt cold, its depth made this bedroom feel cosy and elegant instead.

The patterned headboard and pops of red plus vintage artwork add a sense of fun but also reflect the things I love, which makes this space so personal to me.

Sometimes people don’t necessarily have the vision on how to make a room or a house something they can fall in love with. This is the master bedroom in my old home that we moved out of recently, when we actually bought the house it was not appealing at all, in fact I joked with my husband as to what we did see in the house when we bought it.

As you can see from the original estate agent photo it was quite grim, no design at all. After living in the house I rearranged the layout to work better and added bespoke fitted wardrobes to where the bed used to be. Before there was the smallest of built in wardrobes that we removed and instead positioned a chest of drawers in it’s place.

Imagination and a good sense of space helps in how best to configure a room to it’s full potential. This is where a designer can help, it’s about layout, best use of space, the overall look and feel, the vibe and when done together properly it’s creates cohesion and spaces that work for you.

Missing this cosy, cocooning bedroom, but I am busy planning the design for our new room.

We had to take most of this house back to brick, it had been neglected and was on a sorry state. Here you can see where they bricked up an old window many years ago

And somehow we saw past this and decided to buy this house. It definitely went through a huge change and we left it feeling a lot more loved than when we first lived there

I’m actually specifying stair runners for a couple of other clients at the moment, as in the right property they can really elevate a staircase. Plus you can add some lovely detail with the edging.

Here we kept it more neutral but contrasting, whereas for a couple of upcoming projects we’re adding a bolder edging colour to give it a bit more of a pop and make it more playful.

Stair runners can feel really elegant and also help set the tone for the rest of the house, especially as the staircase is usually one of the first things you see when you walk in.

It’s often the smallest details that pull a room together.

I do love a good wall light and I always think lighting deserves a little more thought than simply deciding where the electrician needs to put a cable.

The shape, scale, finish and the light it actually gives off can completely change how a room feels.

This little black and brass number was chosen to add some contrast to an otherwise soft scheme, and ties in with the other details throughout the room.

A small detail, but one that makes a difference.

A few quick snaps from a recent project visit — I do love seeing all the pieces finally come together.
I don’t think a beautifully designed room needs everything in it to be new. It’s so much more visually appealing when it isn’t.

This was never going to be a project where everything was replaced with brand new pieces and I think it’s so much more interesting because of it.

The clients already had some lovely pieces with character, so we worked with those and gradually layered in vintage finds I’d sourced, alongside a bespoke sofa, new lighting and a few carefully chosen newer pieces.

I always think period homes need a bit of this. You don’t necessarily want everything to feel like it’s from the same era or like a museum but equally I don’t want to remove all the character that makes the house special in the first place.

It’s about getting that mix right and most importantly making it feel like the people who live there, rather than a completely new interior that’s just been dropped into an old house.

This one has been such a lovely project to source for. There are so many individual pieces in here that give the rooms their personality and such wonderful clients to work with too!
