Well some really big news to share with you all….

We sold our beautiful home and moved out last Friday. It was heart wrenching to say goodbye to a house we’d made home over the past 9yrs, renovating from top to bottom. It was definitely a labour of love!

Buuut we have bought a gorgeous new house that I’m excited to cast my magic wand over and make that our new utterly fabulous home! Of course it’s a total wreck but that’s the best kind…it means I can truly put my stamp on it. For me a nearly done house isn’t appealing as I would hate to rip out things just because of taste so a full renovation project it is.

I will miss this kitchen dearly but it’ll be fun planning the new one too.

I’ll share more of the new venture soon and of course the whole renovation journey…

I’m far more interested in materials than trends.

A paint colour can change in a weekend, but the materials you choose are something you’ll live with every day.

When I’m putting a scheme together, I’m looking at how different finishes work together, how they’ll age and, where possible, whether there’s a more sustainable option that doesn’t compromise on quality.

This recycled terrazzo worktop ticked every box and is full of character.

It’s details like this that quietly make a space feel considered.

I’ve been looking back through old project photos recently and came across this kitchen.

One of the things I’m most grateful for in my business is the number of clients who come back to work with me again. This particular client has since asked for help with other areas of their home, which is always lovely.
We’re just putting the finishing touches to her bathroom, stay tuned for some photos once done.

As much as I enjoy creating the finished spaces, I think the biggest compliment is when someone trusts you enough to come back for a second project.

Anyway, I still have a soft spot for this one. The mix of warm timber, soft pink cabinetry and graphic flooring makes me smile every time I see it.

In reality, the rooms people tend to love the most aren’t always the most dramatic or expensive. They’re the ones that feel comfortable, work well and reflect the people who live there.

This was a show home, so the brief called for a fairly neutral backdrop to appeal to a wider audience. But even here, I was looking for opportunities to introduce warmth, texture and personality through the furnishings and styling.

Whether a scheme is colourful and layered or more understated, the goal is always the same: creating a home that feels lived in, loved and genuinely personal. The homes that feel the most inviting are usually the ones that have a bit of their owners in them.

I’ll always choose atmosphere over playing it safe.

I think one of the biggest mistakes people make when renovating period homes is stripping all the character out of them in pursuit of making everything feel bigger, brighter and more modern.

For me, the most successful interiors are the ones that work with the architecture of the house rather than against it.

This room already had beautiful bones - the stained glass, high ceilings and original detailing - so instead of fighting that, the design leaned into it. Deep colours, layered pattern and softer lighting created the more intimate atmosphere the client wanted from the space.

Not every room needs to feel airy and minimal.
Some spaces are supposed to feel cosy, dramatic and a little escapist.

That balance between preserving character and creating something that still feels personal to the client is always one of my favourite parts of the design process.

The homes people remember are rarely the safest ones.

Some of my favourite spaces are the ones that feel a little unexpected. A colour combination you wouldn’t normally choose. Vintage pieces mixed with newer ones. Objects collected over time rather than bought all at once, or even kids artwork - a truly curated space.

I’m much more interested in creating a home that feels like you than one that simply follows trends.

I’d take a home with personality over one that looks perfectly ‘on trend’ every time.

Most people wait until they’re partway through a project before bringing in a designer.

By that point, a lot of the key decisions should have or already have been made.

Important decisions like layout, lighting positions, how the space flows are often set early on and they’re the parts that have the biggest impact on how the home works day to day.

When those decisions are considered from the beginning, everything else tends to fall into place much more smoothly.

Trying to decide on where to locate that plug socket or how many lights you want to have should be decided at the beginning of the project. Yet before you can plan this you need to know where you're putting your furniture.
There are so many variables that can have a knock on effect of the design that careful consideration when you have time is best to make these decisions with a clear head - not on site with a builder putting you under pressure.

A lot of people assume working with a designer means either handing everything over completely - or being heavily involved in every single decision.

In reality, it sits somewhere in between, but with a lot more structure.

My role is to take everything you need from a space, develop a clear direction and then curate and refine the options so you’re not faced with endless choices. I essentially take the overwhelm and time to research off your plate.

You’re not spending hours second guessing decisions or trying to work out what works, that’s where my experience comes in. Instead, you’re presented with considered options that fit the brief, the house and how you live.

It’s a much more focused, efficient process and usually a far more enjoyable one too.

The biggest mistakes I see before a renovation even starts are usually nothing to do with finishes or style.

They always come down to the planning.

Starting without a clear layout, making decisions room by room instead of looking at the house as a whole, or not setting a realistic budget from the beginning can all lead to costly changes later on, on the spot decisions you live to regret and the house not flowing.

It’s completely understandable - most people don’t go through renovations often, so it’s hard to know where to start and can easily get distracted with what you think are the important decisions.

But getting the structure right early on makes everything that follows feel much easier. The decisions become clearer, the process feels calmer and the end result works properly. No more rushed decisions, no horrible surprises but a home you've always dreamt of.

It’s always more than just how a space looks at the end. It need to function properly too and create an easier lifestyle.
